Calories burned walking is accurate

I started wearing a Garmin heart monitor this week and was eager to compare the number of calories burned according on it and in MFP. I'm happy to report that they match.

I just finished a 63 minute walk at 3 MPH (the Garmin Forerunner keeps track of that too). Garmin reported that I burned 270 calories and MFP listed 276. Not much different. The other day the two were only 1 calorie different for another 60 minute walk.

So, at least for my age and data (61 years old, male, 175 pounds) MFP is very accurate.

MFP is accurate for all except for walking for me. It gets me right running, doing aerobics, cycling...never more than about 20 caloies out. Usually under 10.

    I'm female, 25 and 156lbs though - a slightly different demographic.
  • Good to know. I have wondered that. I do find my ellptical and my lifecycle do not match the calories on MFP. I do understand some of it depends on the settings on the equipment, but it does seem to be an alarming difference on somethings. When this happens I go to livstrong.com and cross reference.
