Disabled and trying to lose weight

Hi there, I am 27 years old and a full-time psychology student. I have several disabilities including autism and ehlers-danlos syndrome, chronic pain and chronic fatigue. At my highest weight I was 225lbs, I'm only 5'5" tall and last time I weighed I was 185lbs so am already 40lbs down. I have been struggling though because a lot of it is based on my diet and that hasn't been up to scratch lately I admit, it's even more important because I cannot do a lot of exercise. Just getting up and doing my stretches and physio each day as well as studying is completely wiping me out. I guess I'm looking for support from other people who understand what I'm going through, balancing disability with trying to become healthier. The disability isn't going to go away but I know that I can be living better than I currently am.

Welcome and congratulations on your 45 lb weight loss, your an inspiration and a real go getter with your physical disabilities you doing more than a lot of young people I know that will remain nameless and your not letting anything hold you back I so admire you for that. I'm not able to give much advice as to what more you're able to do, because it sounds like your doing plenty in your daily life. I would say as far as the food is concerned that had been a big issue with me as well, coming here and logging my food and writting in a paper journal also has helped me to space out my meals and healty snacks, I'm dealing with type 2 diabetes which gives me a bit of a challenge because i used to be a sugar holic but now I must check my blood glucose multiple times per day and that has helped me also stay in line with my food. Drinking plenty of water also helps me and at times when I think I would like to snack when it's not meal or snack time for me I chew sugar free gum and it's a big life saver for me as in not eating something I really don't need. I hope this helps and doesn't sound like I'm just reambling on her. Best of care and keep up the awesome work with your health and pursuits :o)

Although my disabilty is not as involved as yours, I have a very difficult time with the exercise also. I wish there were listings for calorie loss when disabled. Like you, I am exhausted doing things which are easy for others. I have fibromyalgia and nerve damage, but more importantly, I severed a foot which was reattached so walking is difficult with canes. The only exercise which is really good for me is water exercise. Have you tried that (are you able to use a pool)? That is the only exercise which I see any results. Congrats on the weight loss so far! Incredible work! You will lose the rest...keep up the good attitude.
