Well - I thought I was "fit", but clearly I wasn't as fit as I thought I was. She has you work so many muscles. If you get sore - it's a good thing - it means you're working muscles you aren't use to working - and soreness =progress.

If it seems difficult at first, that's ok. YOU WILL GET THERE! Good luck - you can do it! :)
  • It's a great workout! You will be sweating, and you probably will be sore - but honestly, if you just push that aside and keep going - while taking days off throughout the week - you will be fine! IT GETS EASIER, I PROMISE.

I think if you are thinking about doing it, just do it.
It is hard, but you can do it. Just go at your own pace and follow the modified moves until you can go faster.
Think how proud you will feel once you complete it. YOU CAN DO IT

I've done an entire first round of it and I'm on my second round. I'm now on the third level and I can say I'm MUCH stronger now than I was the first time I did it. I still break a sweat but it's a little different compared to the first time. It's SO worth it if you're not one to lift weights on your own or do any kind of strength training on your own. I was always, always a cardio person and it wasn't until I started 30 Day Shred when I realized working other muscle groups could benefit me. I've built noticeable definition in my arms (in a non-manly way) when I originally thought they weren't too bad off.

Really, give it a try you'll be glad you did 30 days from whenever you start it.
  • The first 3 days I was SORE but after that it wasn't so bad. I find the first few days on each level are a bit rough, and I didn't consider to be in shape at all. it's worked wonders on me, and I have 13 days left! check out my profile pic, there's been much progress since then!

I only did a few minutes on Wednesday morning and I couldn't even sit to pee yesterday. I was going to never do it again, but hubby and I are going to start it tomorrow. I know I can't do the first set all the way through, but I am hoping to get there within the week.

I am starting it this next Tuesday with a couple of other MFP's...but I tried it for 3 days and I liked it. It is not easy, but it's only about 25 minutes. You can do ANYTHING for 25 minutes. Do you have it already? Maybe we can all start together.

I started it just over a week ago and it is rough. It gives you what it promises, a complete total body workout in 20 minutes. In terms of the workouts, you will do a quick warm-up, 3 minutes strength, 2 minutes cardio, and 1 minute of abs, repeat the 3-2-1 for 2 more cycles, and then stretch/cooldown. It is rough and you will know you've worked out, but it's great because you know in your mind you only have a few more minutes of this which can help push you through.
In terms of just starting, the first couple days you WILL be sore, especially if you haven't been working out much. Like someone else said, it will hurt to sit down/stand up. When this happens it is crucial to keep at it, the more movement you do the more it encourages the lactic acid (waste muscle produces which causes the pain) to get out of your muscles. By the end of the week it won't be anywhere near as painful and you'll just feel a good workout.

Hellooo! I started yesterday, I haven't done much exercise lately, so while I was huffing and puffing, I felt that I could actually handle it. I assume that level 2 and 3 will be harder, but I like it so far today on my 2nd day :) My quads are sore, so I would suggest that after your cool down that you do more stretching than what Jillian does. Another good quad stretch is to lie on the floor and grab hold of your leg with the same leg/arm (ie grab hold of your left leg with your left arm) and gently pull back, sort of like the standing up quad stretch but you are lying on the floor.

I've started the 30DS like 5 times but I did see results when I was actually following it. It is hard, Jillian's voice does get annoying but it's only about 22-24 min of "hustle" (maybe less) and if you can push your mind to have your body follow you'll be just fine. I did hurt the back of my leg pretty bad but it's healed and I can start again. I suggest you start with the first part for ten days and work your way up to 30 doing 10 days per each level. Following the "beginner" lady will help too until you can work your way up to advance. It's tough but there are results and you'll feel stronger too! I'll do it with you if you'd like and we can message each other here for encouragement if you'd like.

30 Day Shred is a workout DVD by Jillian MIchaels, found at most stores (like Wal Mart) for about $10. I started on Feb 13th and I am down to my last few day! Seriously the month went by SO fast.

Like everyone said, the first few days can be a bit rough. I found myself sore and also wondering if I would be too sore to do the workout the next day. But somehow you just find the strength and get it done. The workout is so short and it goes really fast (at least for me). And I always find I feel way better after. I was not in good shape before and I can tell you I feel in much better condition now. My arms are more toned, by stomach is more toned, and my endurance has improved. I still sweat like crazy (like puddles on the floor crazy) and I have to do most of the moves modified, but I still make myself do it.

If you are thinking about it, you definitely should try it. You can do the easier version, plus you can go your own pace if you really need. Just push yourself, and amazing things will happen. It is amazing how just a few days into the workout you find it getting easier. Then just when you feel like you can handle it, you jump to the next level and start all over. But that is why you get the results, by not letting your body get comfortable and by giving it a challenge.

If you are interested, here are my results after only 14 days: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/506417-day-14-of-30-day-shred

I plan on posting my full 30 Day results on Monday. I'm really excited to take the pictures and see for myself what changes have happened. I feel like more changes have occurred the last half than the first.

    Best of luck!

I love the workout! I don't use it as a 30 day makeover but I mix it in during the week with the elliptical and a zumba class to stop me from getting bored.(yes the script gets really irritating after a while). It is a good all over workout that you may find tough (but not killer) the first couple of times. I would definitely recommend it.

Now I think I should try to do the full 30 days in a row and see where it gets me.....watch this space.....

You will think you can't/don't want to but you should. The warm-up will be a little rough but once you get into the exercise and get moving the pain will seem to disappear and you will feel the best you have all day.

I only have 5 days left. It is definitely some HARD WORK, but that's what a workout should be, right? The first day or two of a new level I'm very sore, but I find the soreness gets a whole lot better once I do the workout again because it's stretching and using the sore muscle. At least that's how it works for me. I'm on level 3 and definitely cannot do all the moves, but I push myself a little farther each time and give a little more than I think I can. I was HORRIBLY out of shape when I started but my fitness has improved. I say give it a shot. I haven't lost drastically high numbers, but it's probably about 7 lbs or so right now and several inches.

Some advice if you do it, be sure to take before pictures to help you really see the difference, and perhaps turn on some more motivating music while muting Jillian once you know the routine. That helps me at least. :)

I've started it this week but didn't do it Thursday as I play squash then. It says not to do it Sunday's either but I go swimming then so still doing something.

I don't know if there are any other guys doing it but I think I have a secret crush on jillian michaels lol.

The first few days are tough but you just need to battle through them. Someone asked about equipment, you need dumb bells. I'm only on phase 1 so far and havnt looked at phase 2 or 3 so I can't comment on the equipment side of things there. The second day I did it I felt tight all over and doing the first 5 minutes of the second day was hard work. The 3rd and 4th day I felt much better though. Starting to feel a difference already to my strength. You do press ups in the first part. I do the modified version it suggests but I am now starting to improve on them too.

Also don't think about it, just do it! It's only 25 minutes plus an extra shower of your time.

Go for it! You'll be glad you did. There are three levels - you can do them at your own pace. When you feel like you've mastered level 1 move on to level 2. I started level 3 today and yes it's tough but like others have said, it's only 20 minutes! I feel a big difference in my endurance and notice more definition in my arms and abs. I always feel like I've done something good when I'm finished!!

    Good luck!
