Ive been a member here for over a year but am just now getting into the whole MFP since when i joined i had a super high needs infant. I am 5'8 and weigh 174. I would like to get down to 158 but more importantly get stronger and more toned. The older i get the more i realize its not all about the numbers on the scale. Ive had 3 large babies and have a pelvis diastasis. Anyone else in this boat and how do you work on the tummy/ abs? Ive also been breastfeeding for 5 years straight now. My daughter is 19 months old. Should i still be logging 200 breastfeeding calories or so? She nurses on average of 3 times a day. I feel like 1200 calories is too low but i dont know. Would love some mama input! Last but not least, any 5'8 mamas have some inspirational photos for me? I could use all the good juju i can get :)

Yes, I too am nursing and am also 5'8". I weigh a bit more than you and have a goal of 150. I started with a base of 1200 calories and added 300 for nursing for a total of 1500. I think it's a lot for nursing, but my babe is 14 months old, so not exactly just depending on breastmilk. I don't really know what the norm is for this; I asked a question a while back and didn't get any response. I think people are hesitant to advise nursing moms... ;-)

    Take care!

Thanks for replying! I too agree that i think people are hesitant when it comes to us nursing moms :) if i can ask, what total calories are you eating a day? Do you eat back your exercise calories? Are you steadily losing? With all my babes i seem to get to this exact range here and hit a wall. I havent been 158 since way before babies in high school so not sure its even realistic.

I'm eating my base of 1500 plus most of my exercise calories. I don't step on the scale much (scale phobia -- ha ha), but I do notice myself getting stronger. I've only been back at it seriously for less than 3 weeks though. I've set my goal for July when I have to go to a wedding, so that gives me 4 more months to lose 30 pounds give or take. I don't know if it's realistic either...I've ALWAYS had trouble losing weight while breastfeeding.

Its nice to know im not alone. Im trying to be easy on myself remembering that breastfeeding throws a wrench in things! Good luck to you! Keep me posted on the progress :)

You too! I figure even if we don't see progress on the scale, it's better health and the weight will come off more easily after weaning. ;-)
