Tongue laceration - how long to heal ?

Thanks to highschool wrestling, I bit my tongue....HARD. Hard enough that I developed a vascular malformation in my tongue, which required a wedge to get surgically cut out of my tongue, and I had 15 silk stitches put in.
My tongue healed quite quickly. Had the stitches in for about four days. You tongue will heal quickly also, since it's constantly surrounded by air and moisture.
Hurts like a b!tch, don't it?0 -
Yea, I hit the deck after coming in short and bit my tongue and caused a big flap at the end !
Worst thing is I have medical in a weeks time (trying to delay it now) for the army so hoping it will be well on its way healing by then.
It seems to be healing quite well, pains not too bad at the moment but feels so restricted, when i try and stick my tongue out a little or move it to try and chew something (even mashed broccoli) it stings like a ***** !0 -
Stick to a liquid diet, along with foods that are soft in texture (mashed potatoes, soups, meal replacement shakes, etc). Anything chewy and abrasive will irritate the wound, and it will take longer to heal.
Army, huh? I know a thing or two about the Army.... :glasses:0 -
Yea, its the reserve forces I am looking at joining, always wanted to do it and decided to lose the weight and go for it !
I was doing a charity parachute jump and the wind changed while we were free falling and the guys who were guiding me via radio didn't realise so I ended up in the wrong place and landing in a metal recycling yard and hitting a skip !
Thanks for the info on the tongue, hopefully it will be sorted in a few days / week or so !0 -
Hi all,
I recently suffered a tongue laceration from a skydiving accident which required stitches, I was wondering if anyone else had had stitches in their tongue and how long it took to heal up ?
Thanks
SyGuy
I have no advice but this makes me not want to skydive!0 -
Hi there sky dive
Your tongue is the most vascular part of your body with the exception of your heart. Your tongue will recover faster than you can imagine. Make sure to not smoke (if in fact your a smoker) and drink a lot of water. Make sure to brush your teeth at least 3-4 times a day in order to keep as much bacteria away as possible and your tongue will be back to new in a matter of a few days.
Don't ever stop sky diving, it's by far one of the most exhilarating sports on earth (and above!)
Feel better
Dr. Jeff0
