I'm thinking of getting a HRM. Which one is the best and most reliable? Which one should I get?

As far as best and most reliable, that's going to vary depending on who you ask. Absolutely get one with a chest strap. I was surprised how MFP **GROSSLY** over-estimates calories burned. It's way off. Also treadmill or elliptical calorie counters, they can be off too. Don't waste your money on a heart rate monitor wrist watch (yes they sell these) and they're junk!

I have the Polar FT4 and like it very much. Simple to use, put the strap on (wet the areas first) set the watch, hit start and boom you're ready to go. The FT4 comes with the chest strap and a watch, the watch does nothing only than act as a display piece, it does not measure a heart rate, that's what the strap is for.

Polar, for the most part, has been the de facto standard for years and years. I've no personal experience with brands other than Polar and Timex.

Though I suspect the technology now-a-days is quite similar from manufacturer to manufacturer, I'd just get an entry level Polar and call it a day.

    [EDIT]
You should definitely be spending less than 100 for one. Polar RS100 is $84 at Amazon. Probably less if one shops around. I forgot to mention, if Polar looks a bit too spendy, Timex you have to be careful with: they usually have two versions for each of the low to mid range monitors: "womens" versions run quite small.
  • I have the unisex Timex watch. Bought it at Walmart for $50 and it's pretty dead on with MFP. I use it when I walk, ellipticle and Zumba and it's waterproof. I don't think you have to spend $100 to get the same results. Timex...it takes a licking and keeps on ticking! .
