Skin Removal Surgery/Treatments?

Hey, All -

Has anyone out there lost so much weight that they've needed an abdominoplasty/tummy tuck or other skin removal surgery?

My original starting weight was 288. I'm now at 188 with an end goal of 145.

I can already tell that I'm going to need corrective surgery in certain places - it's making me feel a little bit apprehensive about even continuing to work towards my goal, because I know I won't be able to afford the surgery and that health insurance considers it purely "cosmetic" (so they won't cover it).

Any thoughts on this? Anyone have it done with good results? Just feeling a little discouraged about doing all this hard work and then not being able to really "finish" the job.

Thanks!

Edit: To say, I get that it's not all about looks - it's about health. But, honestly, when you're overweight your whole life and finally get yourself together, it'd be nice to feel comfortable walking around with your shirt off at the beach and whatnot, yeah?

 And of course if anyone knows how to get insurance to approve the operation(s), that'd be great to know, too.
