i only have one rule when adding a new friend: no uggos.

ha ha, no ugly people in spain. the spanish don't do ugly. well done.

I've never added anybody just because they're goodlooking. But it'd be more in the pose than the actual LOOKS. A handsome person can look modest and wholesome and down to earth or they can look like a right ol' narcissistic poseur.

I don't get the whole collecting friends thing, here or anywhere else.
I've been on Facebook for years and keep my friends list pruned to around a dozen.

cant have real candy so nothing wrong with a bit of eye candy!

How many calories in eye candy? Do you have to log that??

    Now that's funny!

There are so many people on here, I like to add people based on their weight loss strategy (usually in line with mine), but I will friend anyone who isn't negative just because someone is doing it differently then them. :-)

here its different, people will see your statuses or food diary stuff and give you encouragement

That's all very well and lovely and I appreciate the few friends I've got here but there aren't enough hours in the day to be commenting on the status of dozens and dozens of people. I don't look at other people's food diaries, never occurs to me, too many ideas of my own at the moment. It's nice when people comment but I dont rely on support from this site to keep me motivated by any means, the app is great, the community is just an extra to me with as many downsides as upsides.
I suppose some people may rely more on encouargement from others but I'm a believer that you rely have to find all your motivaion within yourself to be successful long term.

    Just my two penn'orth.

really? a dozen? even if i only had immediate family on facebook, i'd have at least 40 people. i know its not a competition. but facebook has allowed me, and others, to stay in touch with friends and family that you don't get to see as often as you'd like, withouth those awkward conversations on the phone that go "so yeah... how are things?"

Yeah, I feel that if I tell them, "I'm only adding you because you're hot and I'm superficial," it cancels out all the negative mental effects.

On here, NO! This website should be a place of resources and encouragement. Who cares what the other person looks like if they are requesting to be your friend. Maybe it is a heavier set person requesting a slimmer fit person, because they are wanting help and advice. I rarely request anyone because I don't make time to look at others profile because they are hot. I have friends on here who I either know, or have asked for my help or through mutual friends. Good luck to those who actually want advice and encouragement rather than being judged for their apperance in a pic.

I don't add people because I already have so many people on my friends list. So no! :/

I am loathe to add anyone because I worry that I will inevitably upset them and drive them away due to my posting style - I'm a bit of an a-hole. When I do add someone it's because they have shown themselves to be witty, strong-willed and intelligent - in short, someone whose commentary and thoughts I will enjoy reading. Similarly, I want someone to add me because they enjoy what I have to say.

If I want eye-candy, I'll look at porn.

I don't very often make friend requests. When I do, it's mostly because they have a firm grasp on sarcasm. It's never been because they're hot.
Funny you say this: I may see a picture of someone who does not fit in the hot category, but when I see they are funny and sarcastic, they suddenly move much closer to the hot category. For me, a person's personality has an impact on how I visually "see" them. Sounds strange, but it's true.

Yes I have added someone because I thought he was very attractive. Turns out not only is he hot, he is funny, kind, motivated and makes me want to do better on this journey. :flowerforyou:

Believe it or not I have never added anyone based on looks. Some of my friends happen to be dual threats, cool and hot.

Let's keep it real. When a guy's profile pic is just a shot of his abs, he wants to be added
If I had abs worthy of a close up shot, I'd be all over it! Why, because it would be an absolutely amazing achievement and I'd want to show it off.

Well you may not think you have the abs but those arms are amazing :D

I have thought about it, but I do pay more attention to how much we have in common and if they are interesting. I have added 2 men because they were cute to me but wound up deleting one because he never talked to me and the other I do talk to but he is gay. I learned my lesson and now I don't concentrate all that much on looks, I like personality best, maybe because that is how I see myself. I always hope to find someone someplace I don't know where he will be so I try to keep my eyes and heart open everywhere, and some people have posted that this is a weight loss site and not a hookup (other forums and pages) well you are right but people in my family have met their soul mates at the weirdest places. So of coarse I may meet someone here, or I may meet someone somewhere else. Just don't judge those who are willing to look. After all, this site has introduced me to some of the nicest people I have ever met, I feel very linked to my friends here. I have found out that most hot people I have met online and in real life have been shallow, and that for me someone with a history of being heavy has seen what it is like to be hurt and treat others with more respect, thus this site would be perfect to meet someone, but I know that is not the purpose. I know that's off topic sorry, that is just how my brain works, jumping around subject to subject.

Nope, I just add anyone who wants to be friends. I actually never took much time to focus on the hotties.

looks help draw attention to their profile, but I also look for people that are doing the work and can help keep me motivated. but i just started using the MFP community recently so i don't have too many right now....
  • Guilty. Just added 2 hotties 10 minutes ago. : )
