Protein, yes/no, Before or after exercise, important?

Yesterday I did a full on circuit training routine, the 5 day shred, and was so weak after. Anyone have any suggestions for how I can pump myself up before or after so. I don't have that awful. weakness? I was wondering about energy drinks, protein powders or other supplements that don't eat up my 1200 calories day. Open to suggestions. Thanks
