BBC Horizon: The truth about exercise

Options
If you can get bbc iPlayer i recommend watching this:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01cywtq/Horizon_20112012_The_Truth_About_Exercise/

Certainly has some very interesting points. Some follow up articles here (I'm sure there are plenty more)
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-17177251
http://www.guardian.co.uk/tv-and-radio/2012/feb/28/horizon-the-truth-about-exercise

A few stand-out points that are worthy of more investigation:
* Your genes can determine how well you respond to cardio
* HIT (High Intensity Training) is effective in reducing diabetes threat - even with only 3 minutes a week!
* NEAT (Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis) which is basically not sitting down during the day can be more effective than sitting all day then going to the gym.

I am going to have a deeper look into NEAT because working at a desk (as most of us do I am sure) seems to be a problem that could be improved...

Cheers

Ian

I was really impressed by this program and it really made me think. Do you know if it possible to have that test to find out how well you respond to exercise, and what happens if they tell you you are like the guy in the program and don't respond well, do you just give up?

If you like that you should watch the BBC Horizons episode called Why are Skinny People Not Fat?

    It's awesome, although slightly depressing
