I've been jogging for over a year now. I'll just run a mile or two at a time, but I recently purchased a HRM and noticed that my heart rate reaches around 180-195 every time I run....or jog. On the treadmill, I usually run at about 6.5-7. I'm 27 years old, 5' 5'', and 177lbs. Does anyone know if this is normal? I thought my heart would be more used to this by now and slow down.

    pshook,

There is a great discussion, started yesterday on this very subject with input from some educated people - fitness-wise.

The only way for you to know for sure if your heart rate is normal for you is to go and see your Dr. He/She will be able to tell you within a few heart beats where it should be when you excercise. Other than that I really don't know what to tell you. My heart rate is any where from 144-160 when I excercise. So it is very different for everyone.

I would say that if it is always like this, it is the norm for you.

I read a great article-from a link in the above link (lots of links:laugh: )

Thank you for this. It was very helpful. I don't think my heart will explode any time soon.
