Is it possible for me to have GAINED weight this week?!

Okay... here's the deal....
This week, I have DECREASED my daily calorie intake by about 100 calories AND I worked out 4 out of 7 days, which is more than usual for me.
Every Monday I go to the Diabetes Education Center and weigh myself on their scales because that's where I started weighing myself so I like to stick with the same scale and the ladies that work there are awesome and very supportive! Anyway... I also have a set of scales at home which I've had for a few years and my kids have jumped on it and banged it around a lot ... so it doesn't really work right but every now and then I still weigh myself on it even though it's about 15-20 pounds off. So last Sunday I weighed myself on my home scales and it said 283. Then the next day I weighed myself at the Center and my weight was actually 299. So a 16 pound difference. Well, tonight I weighed myself on my home scales and it said 289... so that's 6 pounds MORE than it said last week!!!! I'm thinking it's probably not right since that scale is always a little off but still.... is that even possible? To GAIN 6 pounds in a week when I've DECREASED calories and INCREASED exercise?!

A man with two watches never knows what time it really is...chuck out the old scale, weigh in once a week on the accurate scale at the diabetes center. Know that reducing intake and increasing outgo will result in weight loss. Be honest in your food logging. Take each day as a new start.
You are going to rock at this.
Slight correction...just noticed your ticker.. you DO rock at this. Still you need to chuck the old scale..t0 -
Is it possible you gained weight?
Yes.
Is it fat gain?
Not necessarily. It is certainly not 6 lbs of fat. That would be very difficult.

A number of things can affect scale weight, particularly water weight Even time of day and time of month can affect it.
My suggestion is to throw out the scale. It sounds like it does not work.0 -

This.
Don't trust the one you have at home and don't fret the number on the scale you DO trust. The number on the scale isn't everything. I haven't lost hardly any weight since October, but my body fat % has dropped 7.4%...0 -
Your food diary is closed, so there's no way to be sure, but I bet you're not eating enough calories and your body is going into starvation mode. Meaning, it's trying to conserve fuel.
Just a thought.
edit: It's wise to weigh yourself first thing in the morning naked, after going to the bathroom. The same time every week. Your weight will fluctuate throughout the day.0 -
toss that old scale out the window...after you jump up and down on it a few times! You will feel so much better!
There were times I wanted to do that to my brand new scale!
Stick with the scale at the center and maybe think about buying a new scale for home and take it to the center with you and weigh on both...then you will know how accurate the one at home is.
Also, this is going to sound totally crazy but my scale will show a different reading if I move it to different spots in the floor?? I usually record the lowest one or sometimes the best out of 3 lol!0 -
I recommend getting rid of the bad scales as well. May want to invest in a more accurate set and try to keep them away from the kids.
That being said, some fluctuation in weight over short term is not uncommon. I have been well under my goal net intake most days and have shown between 310 (a few days ago and 312. Is it a real gain? Unlikely. Various factors such as water retention, bloating from monthly cycles, and even whether you have "gone" recently can factor in. The scale is really not the most reliable measure of weight gain/loss on the SHORT TERM. It will go the right way if you continue to do the right things. Another thing that the weight loss clinic my wife attends picked up on is that if you have a vitamin "D" deficiency, you will tend to not lose weight as quickly as you would like. In one month she toned up really well but only lost 2 lbs according to their scale. With the Vitamin D supplement she has lost like 6-7 lbs this week. (obviously a plateau loss). Best wishes.

I never thought of that but I have hardwood floors and the floor is weaker in some areas than others. That could have something to do with it!toss that old scale out the window...after you jump up and down on it a few times! You will feel so much better!

Thanks for the tip. I take a Vitamin D supplement every day but I take 1000 mui and my mom said that someone told her you should take like 5000 a day. That sounded like a lot to me but I don't know. How much does your wife take daily?I recommend getting rid of the bad scales as well. May want to invest in a more accurate set and try to keep them away from the kids.

Absolutely possible. Muscle or water gain could be the culprit. Don't get discoureaged, just keep at it.0

You can't gain 6lbs a muscle in one week. A female couldn't even gain 1lb of muscle if training and eating properly (ie surplus with right macros) in one week.0 -

Welllll.... I went to the center and weighed myself this morning and I didn't gain anything... but I didn't lose any either = (
My weight is exactly the same as last week.0 -
If you had a friend who you knew to be an inconsistent liar, would you go to her for validation and judgement?
then why are you putting emphasis on a broken scale?0 -

You mean, none of you have ever gained 5-6 pounds in water weight at any time during the month? I must be an extreme exception, then. Your body is doing different things and undergoes different stresses - you could have a combination of both. The key is to have a consistent loss over a period of time.0
