ATM, I am not able to go to the gym and the heaviest weights I have are 5lbs. I am unable to purchase anything or join a gym until I receive my tax return.

I would like suggestions on if body weight training is effective and any routines for beginners? I am a novice and really haven't don't any sort of weight training in YEARS!

I just started www.nerdfitness.com 's body weight for beginner's rountine. I did make it through all of the 1st set as far as repetitions. I am out of shape big time.

I would like to get myself started on the right track.

Thanks!

Just do what you can with your body weight. Push ups, sit ups, lunges, etc. Resistance bands are good too and aren't too expensive. You might be able to find things around the house than you can lift too.

thats part of why i started jillian michaels (i have the dvd for ripped in 30 and 30 day shred) BUT i think the first level of 30 day shred is online on youtube. ive heard people say that at least. if you dont have weights for it or 5 lbs are too hard, you can use water bottles, cans of food etc instead. :-)

either way bumping for you :-)

Do you have a library card? If so, look for 30 Minutes to Fitness Body Training by Kelly Coffey Meyer. This workout requires no equipment. Your library should have dozens of DVDs to choose from.

Hulu.com streams free workout videos, Netflix streaming has a few exercise videos too

Being a female let met recommend some different work outs that will help you shape and tone the muscles you want. Try this work out. If you don't know what it is, you can google it. Do 3 sets of each with a 30 second pause in between each set:

    15 squat thrusts
    5 push ups (normal grip)
    15 squats
10 dips (on a bench or chair)
    20 arm rotations
    5 push ups (wide grip)
    15 leg lifts
5 push ups (dive bomber...or for yoga types a downward facing dog form push up)
plank for maximum amount of time possible.

This is a good basic start off for most females, but that doesn't mean it's easy. Push hard and do as much as you can, and whatever you do finish the set, even if you have to stop and breathe for a minute to finish. Never sacrafice form though! Stop, breathe, and do it right. If you add on some jogging afterword you should do just fine as long as your diet maintains your calorie balance. My sister lost all of her post-pregnancy weight with this. Full disclosure she's a former marine and was running upward of 3 or 4 miles a day, but that just sped up the process. Happy burning!!
