Anyone else have this problem? It's been happening for about a week now. I drink water and take some headache medicine and it goes away, but I just don't understand the feeling?

A week is pretty extreme to have an all day type headache.......especially when waking up with one. Go and see a doctor.......it might just be migrains or it might be something else, you never know.

With me, I wake with headaches sometimes and usually its lack of hydration........whether it be that I woke up after a night of drinking maybe one to three drinks.........red wine, if I drink it too fast, will give me a headache in the mornings.
  • just ibuprofen, nothing crazy. i do sometimes get a headache if i dont have caffeine, but this is different. it feels like a hangover.
  • it doesnt last all day, just a few hours when i get up. i'm probably dehydrated.

Do you have light sensitivity and a sensitivity to noise? If so, I think that's one of the symptoms of a migraine..........

    You could be dehydrated.

How many hours do you sleep, though?
I know I feel the same if I sleep way too much or way too little.

That's good at least..........but honestly, if its happened for over a week and you say you've been drinking water, you are doing the right thing........but if you are drinking a lot of water through the day every day and it doesn't seem to do anything........I don't think its dehydration........

Good point..........I forgot about this one as well.........if I sleep over my eight hours, I TOTALLY wake up with a headache and I most likely will have it all day..........and so my body screams for caffiene!

I've suffered from this for years. I call them my "sleep-hangovers". My friends know better than to get me up earlier than necessary because I want to throw up, have bad headaches, am achy all over and am ridiculously irritable. I found it goes away sometimes if I take 3-6mg of melatonin before bed, but I still get the headaches. I used to bring chocolate milk and ibuprofen with me to work when I worked first shift so I wouldn't feel hung over/throw up. The only way it goes away is if I get like, three hours of sleep and don't even make it to the deeper stages of sleep, or if I get a solid 10.5-11 hours, which is almost never possible.

    in my experience:

it could be blood pressure. I have hypertension and when it was out of control I'd wake up hating life. I felt horrible with a pounding head.

    Dehydration, that'll do it too.

Also, and I'm afraid to mention this one, since being off grains/processed foods if I have a slice of pizza or something before bed I wake up feeling like I just woke up from a bender!

Alcohol dehydrates, so it's probably that. Try drinking the water alone.

Yes, but only when I eat dairy. And not just dairy, but a certain amount / type of dairy. My entire family (mother, grandparents, etc.) have issues with dairy.

If I eat anything with any amount of heavy cream or more than a teaspoon of butter, I wake up the next day with a headache, fatigue and upset stomach.

Have you been eating anything new or different recently? I also second the suggestion that you might be dehydrated. That's where most of the alcohol hangover symptoms come from.

    Best of luck!

My guess would be dehydration. I've woken up hungover because I did Bikram yoga the night before (lots and lots of sweating) and didn't drink enough water before going to bed.
  • you should consider going to the doctor for labs tests to be evaluated-this sounds very serious ...anything can be running amuck & you body is telling you something, as mildly as people feel about hang overs they still are having a hang over from a degree of alcohol poisoning & depletion of minerals ect. I think you seek medical attention

Is there a reason why you would be dehydrated every day? If you suspect dehydration, drink a large glass of water just before bed and keep a glass/bottle of water on your nightstand.

When you sleep, do you sleep well? Fall asleep easily and sleep uninterupted? If this continues you really consult a doctor as it could be a symptom of many things.

It could be low blood sugar. It could be sleep apnea. It could be nothing. It could be something serious. I'd definitely see a doctor if it continues.

This now happens to me when I have a "Sugar Hangover" If I slip up and eat to much sugar or sugar right before bed, I wake up totally headachey, nauseous, and tired. I take lots of water and I also take shots of Organic Apple Cider Vinegar. Most say this doesn't do anything, but if it tricks me into feeling better, WHO CARES?

This happens to me if I had a lot of sugar the day before.

This happens to me if I'm dehydrated. If I didn't drink much water or had a high sodium day the day before, I wake feeling kinda like that.

Are you sure it's not a migraine? I get migraines that last a week and it could be confused with a hangover. I feel nauseous, headache (migraine), tired, etc.

EDIT: Even when I get rid of the migraine pain from medication I feel the other symptoms until I take the medication that targets them as well.

how much water are you drinking?
  • As soon as I get some $$ I will go to the doctor, haha. I have a new insurance plan that comes with a deductible, and it is expensive just for a regular office visit!

Thanks for all the advice, I even feel better now after drinking some water. I'm freaking out because a guy I work with is having brain surgery today for tumors they found. He's my age, so that's on my mind too.

    God I hope I'm not pregnant! haha. I'm not though...I hope..can't be yet...ahhhhhh

P.S.---I did almost just throw up in my sink for no reason. Now you've all got the hypocondriac in me revved up! haha
  • You may be releasing toxins into the blood stream as the fat dissolves while you diet as well as being dehydrated. I drink one Vita Coco water a day and it completely takes care of my dehydration issues which were getting so bad my feet would painfully spasm. I didn't like the taste at first so I watered it down but I can't recommend it enough!

Can someone please tell me how to start a new thread on here? Don't see it! Thanks
