So I was not motivated to workout today, but the sun was shining and my yard is a mess after the rains. So I got up and got out in the sun. I trimmed hedges for about 30 mins, raked some, made piles of debris, moved patio furniture, watered and got dirt in my nails. I was outside for 1 hour and 45 mins in the yard. I was sweaty for about an hour of that. Should I just log 1 hour of gardening.....I love gardening and if I could do that everyday holy cow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks:flowerforyou:

I would log it in. That's what my husband did yesterday. He burned alot of calories in just 45 minutes! He said he'd rather do that every day then run. He listed it as "general gardening" in the cardio section.

Just wondering, should I log all 1 hour and 45 mins as gardening in or just the amount that I sweated (trimming hedges) I did move the entire time....but stood and drank and tapped my foot and scratched my head.....but didn't sit or stop really........thoughts/??????

I'd log in the whole time. You were still burning calories even if you weren't sweating. Like you said, you were moving the whole time. hope this helps!

Thanks Csingleton.................seems you are the only one who had an opinion on this. So I opted to log most of it...........:flowerforyou:

Sassie, I'm sorry I took so long to answer your question...I meant and I got distracted somewhere....

I would log the whole time in (that's what I do when I garden). When I strength train, I rest between sets...wouldn't that be the same thing as you scratching your head and what not?

Heck, you can even add cooking...something I do everyday but don't count....so I think it would be fair to say that you could log the whole time.

I personally log half the time as it just seems like way too many calories to me, but then whenever I've been gardening I've not really been getting hot and bothered. I guess I'm used to it these days! I suppose the only way to know for sure is the good old heart rate monitor!
