I want to buy either a set of dumbells or a set of resistance bands. I want them for when i workout at home, which is usually 1-2 a week. I had borrowed some dumbells from a relative a few months ago when I started 30DS...now that I am coming to buy something I am not sure which to choose?
Any tips/opinions?
Thanks in advance

Dumbells can get expensive really fast, since a lot of them are sold by the pound. I bought a set of resistance bands from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Black-Mountain-Products-Resistance-Included/dp/B002L6WO5U/ref=sr_1_3?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1331575927&sr=1-3. They have been great and have different weight ranges associated with each color. I have been doing ChaLean Extreme with them and they work well. I also love that they all fit into a small bag and when we move again in a few months (or for traveling) they will be easy to pack up and transport!
I think honestly though, if money, space and portability were not an issue, I would get a set of select-techs.0 -
I got my 22 yo daughter a set of the adjustable dumbells 5 - 12.5 lbs. This gives her enough weight for most exercises she does and the ability to vary the weight without having to purchase lots of sets of dumbells. The exercise bands of today are much better than years ago. Exercise bands are less expensive, and are MUCH more portable. Still, the bands tend to risk breaking or stretching (giving you unequal pressure/resistance).

In my opinion, a quality set of adjustable dumbbells are the better investment.0 -

I have done bands, and dumbbells. Personally I feel the dumbbells give a better, more effective workout.0

I was reading an article on this the other day - could have been in a magazine - they recommended dumbbells over the exercise bands. Your muscles are constantly working to support and stabilize the dumbbells through the complete range of motion. With the exercise bands you actually have a point where your muscles aren't working so hard, and then where they are being engaged. So, they came to the conclusion that dumbbells are better. I have both but couldn't tell you the last time I used the theraband. I have 3lb, 5lb and 8lb weights at home that cover most of the things I use them for.0
