what if you don't like what you're reading?

I'm in the middle of a book that's really long and getting unbelievably boring.. I'm about halfway through it, so my question to you is if you don't like the book do you stop reading or finish to see how it ends?

i burn it. i hear book burnings are really cool.

but yeah - why finish something? what do you do when you are dating a boy you realize you don't like anymore? stick around to see how it ends?

I stop. Usually, I've made a judgement by the end of chapter one, and simply don't go any further. Only one book has drawn me in half-way and still had me give it up, and that was 'Thinner' by Stephen King.

A friend let me borrow 'Long Walk' and I absolutely loved it, then she gave me 'Thinner' and told me it was amazing. Easily as good as 'Long Walk'. So, I took it home and I read. I really wasn't keen, but I remembered the great things my friend had said about it and I carried on. I was half-way through before I decided it was too late in the book to 'get better'. I cast it aside and moved on. It took a lot of effort to get that far in - I had no desire to keep going.

I'm not burning my Kindle. And no I make up something gross about him and tell everyone then use that as my excuse to dump him

I usually put it down for a few days/week then pick it up again, if it's still awful, i just stop reading it (maybe i'll read the last chapter).

Sometimes it's just a headspace i'm in, so I like to make sure it's the book and not just my mood.

I'm reading "The Fountainhead" It's about architects. It's boring, but there's part of me that may just go crazy if I never find out how it ends. I may skip to the end....Also it makes me mad to spend money on a book and not finishing it, like I wasted money

I finished Mockingjay because I wanted to see what happened, but I didn't really enjoy a lot of the book. But it was a pretty short book. I wouldn't spend a lot of time reading something I didn't enjoy. But I might skip to the end.

I actually bought it by accident, I had just gotten the Kindle and was looking at the description of this book and I accidentally hit BOTH the purchase and confirm buttons without meaning to. After that I figured I should at least give it a shot since I paid for it already...

I don't think I ever stopped reading a book. Even all the Twilight books. Even Atlas Shrugged. I always thought I have the attention span of a kitten... but I guess not.

I try and stick it out, I feel weird skipping or leaving it which is stupid as it just means I put off reading it.

I never stop reading a book, although there have been times I've wanted to, just in case it starts to get good. This has left me disappointed on a fair few occasions.

There are way too many books in the world you could be reading that you like while you waste time on a book you're not enjoying. You can always go back to it some other time, if you want. No one says you have to finish one book before you move on to another. :)

I unintentionally stopped reading "A Feast for Crows" by G.R.R. Martin halfway through. I'm a big GOT fan, but that's as far as the thrills go. I still read a few pages here and there with my Kindle Fire, but boy is it a DRAGGGGG! I'll go back and re-read the first 3 books though. Those were awesome.
  • I'm not sure I ever started reading a book so boring I had to put it down. I only read books for short spurts of time anyway, so my tolerance for boredom might be higher. Textbooks and deadlines are different. If I had to read a philosophy book by a deadline like I had to when I went to college, I'd probably shoot myself AND the book. The book first, of course.
