The HARDEST thing ever

I have a family that loves to get together, and what do people do when they get together? Eat.
It's SO hard because I always have everyone and their dog trying to shove sugar down my throat, and I have to pretend like I don't want it. If ONLY they made some magical dessert at restaurants that had no sugar or flour, but still tastes amazing haha.

I am up front and say--'-If I cave now I'm done'---Or 'Wow! That looks great, but I cannot possibly walk the 8 miles it would take for me to eat it! "
Get used to saying It loks delicious but NO THANKS---it will be a BIG part of your new life!:flowerforyou:0 -
What I've found is that people feel better about eating bad things when they eat bad things in numbers. Sometimes people shove food down our throats because if they go down, they want us to go down with them. You can't feel bad about saying no thanks. Eventually they will all get the message. Also, if it is something you really want to eat...eat it. Otherwise, you will over eat with everything else to satisfy that urge.0

Every Sunday our family gets together and it is really hard. It is part of the reason that I told my sister about MFP and she joined a few weeks after I did...now at least there are two of us!
But for 4 years prior to MFP and when my kids were younger I did not eat any processed sugar (still don't). No birthday cakes, no ice cream, no Christmas cookies, no pumpkin pie, no jelly beans or cadbury eggs, etc...not even my very favorite...Mudslides!!! ( I make the best!)
the hardest part is feeling like you are offending someone when you don't eat their item and everyone is urging you to try it and you feel like you are 'rude' to not or your the party pooper when everyone else indulges and feels "guilty".
I learned early that although it is difficult, I try to be the one to make the dessert and serve it. This way I don't hurt anyones feelings and while I am serving they are eating...by the time everyone is served some are already finished so it is not as obvious that I didn't indulge.
Also, it takes time...eventually they won't say anything except things like...wow, I admire your will power.
Last but not least, if there are leftovers I pull out the paper plates and plastic wrap and make a plate for each family to take home! So I bring home an empty pan.0 -
My family is very supportive and doesn't try to push anything on me. Work is the problem, my group is constantly having food days or celebrations. I requested healthier food days and we decided to celebrate Heart Health Day in February. My contribution was hummus, celery sticks, and baby carrots. The next healthiest item was Strawberry Shortcake with real whipped cream. I give up!:frown:0
