A diabetic finding it hard to lose weight

I'm just wondering if there are any other diabetics out there that are finding it difficult to lose weight?
I'm a type 1 diabetic (for 30 years and counting) who's a real conscious eater, and try my best to be active. I'm on the high end of an average weight for my age and height (according to bmi), but I would like to be on the low end. It seems like my metabolism is at a stand still and it takes a lot of work to lose weight... I'm eating around 1300 calories with 3 days a week of 1.5 hour workouts (mixed cardio and weights).
Any suggestions or ideas?
