This is a good article explaining why you lose so much so quickly at the beginning of a diet, and then why you could have an initial gain when you start eating more.

This is why anyone who is going to increase their calories should not weigh for a few weeks, as they could get disheartened and give up, or why some people gain water weight after an increase of carbs.

I never understood the "water weight" answers so tried doing some research - I love to be as informed as I can about what is happening to my body, then I won't be too suprised when strange things happen0
