My food groups

I have figured out that my diet has 4 food groups. Protein, Carbs, Fat and Crap. Last week I greatly reduced my carbs because I felt like I needed to "make a change". I started on Monday and tried to keep it to about 115 or so carbs per day. I went mountain biking on Thursday (my favorite sport!) for about 2 hours and found I had no power in the climbs. A few folks said add in some carbs, you need some carbs etc. I had a mountain bike race on Sunday so I ate a potato Saturday night and had some toast with breakfast Sunday. Same thing - zero power. I did however lose 1.5 lbs in a week, so yay for that. Anyone else experience this?
So, I've been reading and considering this and really I think it is not the carbs that are the problem. It is the crap, yes it took a lot of reading and considering to come to that conclusion. I can eat whole grains, in fact I need to, but what I don't need is the white stuff. I need to make smarter decisions about consuming the foods from my fourth food group. Current list of fourth food group items: sourdough bread, cookies, peanut butter filled pretzels, pita chips and wheat thins. I probably needed to cut all carbs for a bit just to kind of get some distance from the carb gorging I was doing, but I also think it is time to start re-introducing some key carbs - especially for breakfast and lunch. I have to be careful though - for me it is a slippery slope. Quinoa, the gateway carb.
