Does anyone work from home? If so, what do you do?

Yup, but only 2 days/week. I work for a health care provider on their website. Great benefits!

Although I work in commercial construction, there are times during periods between projects when I can estimate and plan projects from home. I try to do everything I can do to make this work out for me - and when it does, it is amazing. I also have a very understanding LONG TERM employer, which helps.

You would be surprised at the things that can be done from home. Most of the people I work with telecommute at least 1 day a week, and some do it 5 days per week. One friend of mine from work actually now telecommutes 4 day a week. Her job is to research/respond to customer complaints regarding our website. There are other people who are project managers, and they can do their job easily from home or the office. The key is how the employer has setup their work environment.

-90% of our meeting are done on the phone using WebEx. So you don't need to be in the office for a meeting.
-100% of the people in my department have laptops as their only computer, so you can take home the computer you use at work and have all the data/programs you would have had if you were at work.
-Anyone who telecommutes gets a special token that allows them to securely log into the company network via the internet.
-Most of the employees have company issued cell phones, so we have a company phone number to be reached at.

I don't know what skills you have, but the key is finding a company with a good telecommute policy!
