fitness social: why do you say not appropriate for lean people?

I have had a lot of difficulty find any results for category 1 people though.

If there's a group, can someone send me an invite. GP79's trying it too (so no more cheesecake food porn  )
It was just my personal opinion. I have always considered PSMF a crash diet. If you're lean, you don't need to do such drastic things. I believe Lyle even mentioned something like that.

    I could be wrong.

    It depends.

If Lyle believed that it was only appropriate for those with higher bodyfat, he wouldn't have included a plan for Cat 1 dieters -- instead he would've said "do something else".

    That is indeed true.

Would you suggest to me then, the 11-12 days on the psmf, then refeed, then break, then back to calorie counting normally... do you guys think I could drop 6% body fat before june? Maybe even may so I don't have to stress about weight up until my wedding day? Currently at 24%

You only have around 7-9 pounds of body fat to get to your % goal. You still have around 10 weeks until june. With some willpower and dedication you can come close ^-^ Just make sure to do it the healthy way and follow the program how it is set up!

Thanks mate. Fair enough. However, I see that >15% for a guy is pretty broad figure. I get what you're saying but I'd be thinking that would be for those > say 8-10% for example. I wouldn't think that 10-15% would be too lean to try it. I believe he recommends UD2 for leaner individuals in general though. (I much prefer the workouts in RFL than the structure workouts in UD2 though)

Thanks for that link on the potassium RonSwanson.

BTW this has got to be the least frustrating thread on the forums.

    I don't get it.

    1. Topic is a "crash" diet, without a slew of responses saying "you're gonna break your metabolizms"

    2. Differences in opinion ended with each party learning something and adjusting their views to accommodate the new evidence to the table, rather than turning into an absolute train-wreck (especially considering some of the parties involved).

I've read UD2.0. Great program if you're a fitness model or figure athlete. If you don't have financial motivation and still choose to subject yourself to that program, you should have your head examined.

Agree with that. Way too regimented for me!

Can I have an invite too?
I have a question about the sodium. That is one thing I am a bit fuzzy on. I know increased sodium is a good thing, but how much did you guys get? And what exactly is its exact purpose? To help prevent dehydration due to the lack of carbs? I have also read that salt may help spare lean mass but was just wondering.

Lack of carbs (and food in general) can make you sodium and potassium deficient.

    Get some of this:

and season your food with it.

    Are you being sarcastic?

    Not in the least.

Lyle actually recommends it. The potassium content is much higher than you will get from a pill, for a fraction of the price. I'm pretty sure it's in the book (if not, I've seen him recommend it several times on his forums).

I ask because, you don't think full sodium salt would be better?

    Nope.

Low sodium isn't the only issue. Low potassium is, as well. Lite salt is 50/50 --- you can hit your dietary needs with about 1/3 tsp per day.

    http://forums.lylemcdonald.com//showthread.php?t=1326

I'll get some of that. I usually add salt to my water.

PU239 you should have known about the potassium its listed in the book as one of the supplements. The lite salt is a good way to get both sodium and potassium. Thanks for the tip Ron.

Interesting thread. So happens that I'm on day 2 of RFL. I'm right in the middle of category 1 (22% BF) with 102lbs LBM so planning for 12 days at around 125gm protein (I'm not doing too much strength training atm), then refeed and break off completely. So far, so good. Like some said, chicken breast and broccoli (and spinach) are my main staples. I'm on all the supplements as recommended.

You're right! Her max is 196 if I calculated it correctly from her stats. I forget about those who do lots of weight lifting.

Personally, I wouldn't try this without lifting.
