Emotional Eating

I dont know if I've posted this in the right place but here goes...

I suffer from depression and am on medication but as everyone knows this just helps by levelling you out so you dont have the extreme lows. My whole life I have been a comfort eater and when I get sick, emotional and upset I eat. I think when I'm not feeling well that food will make me feel better. I think when Im hungover that food will make me feel better. I think food will make me feel better in every circumstance. Even though I know it doesn't I still lean towards it and catch myself after I have actually consumed the food.

My question to you is - do you suffer from this also? Have you found a way to help you? What are the tools you have learnt along the way and how do you deal with this?

I'm really suffering at the moment. I've been going really well lately but then something knocks me over and I use food to pull me back up then I think 'what the hell have I done' and its too late and the vicious circle starts all over again!

I really would love to hear anyone who suffers severly with this because it would be great to learn some new tools!!

I can definitely be an emotional eater at times. I've gotten a bit better with it in the past two years, but sometimes, nothing can stop my unruly emotions from seeking out their fave comfort food: Chocolate.

I find that doing a task to distract myself can help. Like tidying up, going for a walk, chatting with a friend. Just do something. Drinking a bit of water can also help

Finding something else that makes you feel good. A nice relaxing bath, meditation, yoga, excercise, a nice walk, may not work straight away but in time it may. Herbal teas, i am finding i now love camile tea at night so stops met eating, talk abit a pushing myself but now i love it.
