(Re) teaching yourself to swim?

Hey y'all

So here's the deal. I used to be a pretty good swimmer, as I was a life guard in my late teens at a hospital pool. In college I used to swim laps a few times a week but since being out of college and broke my swimming had been intermittant.

Flash-forward 3 years and I'm back with regular pool access care of one of the local Y's. My swimming technique has suffered so bad, it's a shame. I know that fitness and weight don't neccesarily relate, but I can't help but be astonished that I was a faster swimmer with better form at 400+lbs than I am now. Course I'm not a teenager anymore but not too far from (at 26).

I'm still broke, an Americorps who gave up her "beer" money to afford the low income Ymca rate of 35 a month. So I can't afford a swimming class. I've been going and practicing and I've gotten a bit better in the past month but does anyone have any guides or suggestions?

Thanks,
DK

P.S - My Y does not offer free swimming classes, it's not included in the membership and is extra
