NSV one-two punch this week

On Saturday, I went horseback riding for the first time in over a decade. (Previous to that, I'd sat on a horse twice in my life.) Really, the entire experience was a NSV (non-scale victory); when the opportunity to go arose, I seized it immediately, not considering as I would have done in the past if I’d look too silly, have too much difficulty getting on the horse, be able to keep up, etc.
It was cold and icy on Saturday morning, making the ground treacherous and my boots seem like they had no tread at all. I just told myself that if I fell, I’d get back up, and I kept going. It was so icy in spots that we actually had to dismount between the barn and the training area so that it would be easier on the horses.
Despite the ice and the lack of experience, I mounted and dismounted on my own *twice* without any assistance, no steps and no people to give me a boost. I simply told myself I could do it, and I did it. (And let me tell you how I felt short and the horse seemed very far up when I was standing next to him, lol.)
I trusted the horse to keep his footing as we took to the trails, and when he got excited and snuck in a couple of trots, I let him have his head—and determined that I totally want to come back in nicer weather so that we could trot for real and not be in danger from the precarious footing. I also managed an “around the world” (where you basically fling your leg over the horse so you’re sitting sideways in the saddle, then again so you’re sitting backwards, then again to sit sideways on the other side, and then back to the front). I would *never* have tried that in the past, but I did it this time to see if I could, because I liked the challenge!
My second NSV was on Monday when my landlord came over to check an issue with the basement sink. I haven’t seen him in nearly a year, and we started with the regular small chat before he finally said, “You’ve lost a lot of weight. You look great! I tried to be subtle at the door, but I thought it was a stranger answering for a minute.” Seriously, I could have kissed the man!
One year in, and I am feeling *good*. (I also managed to up the weights on my squats and deadlifts this morning.) I hope everyone else is having a week full of NSVs too.
