*waves hand wildly*
When I first started running last year I was using my regular cross training shoes with what I thought was plenty of cushioning. I got shin splints ALL of the time.
Here on MFP I learned that going to a running store and getting properly fitted for shoes can make all the difference.
So I did...spent $115 on the shoes shown in my avatar and I've not had shin splints since!0 -
I have, still do. 2 things help me... better fitting shoes and rest.
I've heard anecdotally that compression socks can help. Thinking about giving them a try.0 -
First figure out WHY you are getting them. Most often it is due to incorrect shoes or OVERSTRIDING.
Then treat:
Rest
toe taps
and yes compression socks do help0 -
a perfect set of shoes... also i stopped running on hard ground. went more trail running. seemed to help.0

I got them when I started running for my half marathon so bad that I would cry. I started to stretch before and after and on long runs I would do it mid run as well. But it mostly came down to my shoes and having to build up muscle on my legs. Make sure you get your feet checked for the right shoes. GOOD LUCK!0
