HRM Zone Question

Until recently, I've rarely used the HRM part of my Garmin watch. But I decided to start using it in an effort to better understand how my body responds to different workouts.
When I run at 5.5 MPH (which I don't do that often, maybe twice a week and it's never easy for me) I tend to be in Zone 5.
When I cycle at 15-17 MPH (which I've done for years, it's my sport & hobby) I stay between 3.2-4.5 depending on wind, hills, etc...
Walking at 3.5 MPH (walking to work) puts me at 2.5-3.0.
What zone do you try to work out in? I've heard zone 3 is the best for weight loss, but I'm really not sure.
Thoughts? Do you actually pay attention to this when you work out? Just wondering....
