Hi! New to the site and looking for new mom's who are also breastfeeding? I'm not sure how to calculate any extra calories for breast feeding. Any ideas? Cheers!
EDIT: OOPS! Just found the posts about this and hoping that the site gets an update soon! Would be great to have an "exercise" of breastfeeding.

Welcome! BFer here. I add it as 300 cals...probably low, but better safe than sorry.0

I just googled it and there were tons of articles on it...most said anywhere from 300-500 extra calories a day but to listen to your body....when you are nursing, you NEED the calories bacause your baby needs them...
Congrats on the baby and welcome to MFP0 -
Hey! Nice to "meet" you. My daughter is 6 1/2 months. I added my own exercise and labeled it breastfeeding. I remember each day that I need to get in the 45 minutes of exercise plus the 15 that I've labeled BF and I put that it burns 500 cal./day. However, I don't eat an extra 500--maybe just 3 or 4 hundred extra to replenish the bf calories.
How old is your baby? Congratulations by the way!0 -
My wife is in the middle of it right now and she puts the number at about 500 per day. It's a bit higher if you breastfeed while running on a treadmill.0

hello and welcome to MFP. I think you will love this site. It is so motivational, supportive, helpful, easy to use and everyone here is nice and friendly. I just wanted to wish you much success on your weight loss journey. You can do this!!!!!!!!!! :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:0

Wow! Thanks so much for everyone's support already! And for the info on BF'ing. I really do not want to hurt the milk supply, so will try to monitor really closely.
Our new baby is 3 months old this week, so still getting used to everything. Plus, had a c-section, so no one would let me work out until baby was at least 8 weeks. Have been trying to exercise since then, but I keep running into a rut and eat for any reason at all! Someone mentioned this site on Babycenter.com, so here we are! We'll try anything at this point. I've never been this heavy before and do not like it at all.
I love seeing everyone who's already lost so much! Hopefully I'll join you guys soon!0
