Blood Type Diet

Has anyone heard of the Blood Type Diet, or has tried it? Any information would be appreciated.

I've read a little bit about it and it seems to be bullsh*t. I would suggest not bothering with it, and just set up your calorie/macro intake using MFP and just hit those targets eating foods you enjoy rather than foods that are on some list.0

seems crazy to me too. i knew someone who was obsessed with it after having cancer and chemo etc. she was advised to go on it through her nutritionist, and she spent ALOT of time telling me what i could and couldn't eat.
like, i can't eat peanuts, but i can eat cashews, i can't eat beans, but i can eat chickpeas, i can't eat apples but i can eat pineapple. (or whatever, i didn't take that much notice).
ridiculous rules that i can't possibly be bothered dealing with.0 -
i agree with side.
apparently for my blood type chicken is bad for me and grains are good for me. this is so far from the truth. chicken is the easiest meat for me to eat and i have no digestive issues with it. grains on the other hand i have huge problems with.0 -
This was one of my husband's recent fads. He's been through the Fit for Life routine and the Blood Type diet and Alkaline water and Salt from the Dead Sea and . . . every one of them is the "whole truth, and nothing but the truth--but don't talk to your doctor they don't know but this is the secret of the ancients long forgotten but only road to total health." There's some truth to some of them. Some of them also sell jiggle exercisers--you know the belt around your butt that vibrates you to fitness from the 70s--to complete your healthy make-over. Can you tell I believe almost none of the junk? If the "evidence" is all anecdotal (stories from people) but no independent well organized studies, it's garbage--if it was true they'd pay for a study with some of the buckets of money they make from selling it.0

yes i have and have read all three books .and thought it was real helpful i learned so much .and went on the diet for a few months .and i felt wonderful .i love making all of my meals ,trying all kinds of foods .i still try and eat as many of the foods as i can .i have a stomach problem and until i tryed thisdiet .all the pills in the world never helped me .now i have little to no gas or bloating .i buy as much of the organtic food as i can afford .i learned that i needed to never eat wheat .have you checked most foods have wheat .i would love to only eat what they tell you to eat in this book .it would be worth it to read all three books .you will learn so much from these books .so many tips food and more .i think the books are around 25.00 each .i make my own bread ,that was one of the things i could never eat .so now i can have bread any time i want to .hope this helps .0

I've read up a bit on the premise of it, and it seems to be based on connections with certain blood types and peoples' evolutionary ancestors' diets and habits. It's not really based completely in exact science, since most of the premise is going with connotations that may or may not exist within any given blood type group.
For instance, people with Blood Type B may share genetic associations with hunter/gatherers, but that doesn't necessarily mean that a meat like chicken is going to be terrible for them, because digestive properties are based on enzymes produced in your GI tract, and have no connection whatsoever with your blood. There may be a larger percentage of people who have trouble digesting things like chicken with B blood type, because that blood type may be connected with genetic inabilities to produce certain enzymes, but that's not going to be a guaranteed fact; it's just going to be a statistical thing that happens now and then.
Honestly, I wouldn't put much stock in it. It couldn't hurt to try it, but it's just based on some connections, not hard-core evidence. Some people might have good results, but others won't. It's entirely individual, because genetics are entirely individual. Really, even the positive results might just happen because people eat more cleanly, and not necessarily because they ate certain meats and cut out other things. Coincidences happen all the time.0 -
I think its alot like religion.....
If you take the parts that you feel will help you, the ones that make sense to YOU personally (for instance never thought I had trouble with grains until I stopped eating them..) It really cant hurt to try it. I was typed and as it turns out I am apparantly on the right track as far as the diet goes by following a paleo/primal type plan. It works for ME. Good for you on exploring your options and learning about different ways to gain and maintain health0 -

I think doing your own research is important. Sometimes you have to test things to see what is right for you. I am blood type A according to the blood type diet i should be a vegetarian and eat grains. Personally I will never give up meat and i find I lose the most weight when i keep my carbs around half of the mfp recommendation.

I asked a registered dietician about this diet. She said there is not enough evidence to show it actually works. She told me not to waste my time on it.0

I'll explain it how one of my undergrad biology professors explained it: there are indeed genetic variations in what foods you can handle better than others. However, these are based on things that are obvious and can be controlled, like what naturally grows in your group's area or what animals you've learned to raise. If you come from a background of people who raised cows, you are more likely to be lactose tolerant, for example. When it comes to blood type, we weren't even AWARE of it until very recently. Even today, if you don't have it tested, you won't know what it is. There's no possible way to select for it; our ancestors (of all blood types) would not have been eating different things depending on something they didn't know existed. This is further compacted by the blood type diet's weird exclusion of some things and inclusion of others, which wouldn't even be an option but for the global distribution of food we have today.
Basically, if blood type were important for diet, we would be alerted to it in some other way, some way that we would be able to care for ourselves before we developed a test. But we're not; we humans, by and large, tend to thrive on similar diets.0 -
Considering the broad groups of the population covered by the various blood types, it would be safe to say that it works for some people, and not for others.
For me, the information for blood type O, which happens to be my blood type, is pretty accurate. I actually went vegetarian some years back - a super clean eating vegetarian too, very little in the realm of processed or junky food. Lots of fruit, vegetables, legumes, whole grains and some nuts. I stuck with it for a year. It did nothing to help my health, and I gained weight. I do best with the diet for type O exactly as described.
On the other hand, my sister who is Type A does best on a vegetarian diet - exactly as described.
This is what is known as anecdotal evidence and is not grounded in any science - just two person's personal experience. Take it for what it's worth.0
