Anyone follow the Metabolic Effect program?

Just curious about it. We have the classes at my gym and I was checking out the website and the book. Just wondered if anyone has read it and/or started following this type of program. Thoughts? Go!

From what I have seen on this website, this is just a lot of smoke and mirrors trying to make a standard HIIT type workout routine sound like something "unique" and "exotic". As a rule, any time you see the word "metabolic", you should reach for your wallet and make sure it's still there.
There's nothing wrong with doing HIIT workouts. They can definitely have a powerful effect. I happen to believe that the effects of HIIT are being vastly oversold these days and too many people are following unbalanced workouts by doing too much HIIT, but that doesn't mean they don't have a role as an important part of your program.
So, if you like the classes, go for it. If you haven't been doing any high-intensity training, you will probably see some dramatic results. Keep in mind that has as much to do with the fact that you are doing something different as it does with the workouts themselves.
A lot of the "science" they describe is kind of a bob-and-weave, cut and paste job. They are taking snippets of research and weaving them into a detailed narrative that has really been proven. Again, that doesn't mean the classes are not of benefit--I just wouldn't get too caught up in the background noise that goes with them.0
