BMR (Basal metabolic rate) vs maintenance cals.

Options
Based on my current details, my BMR is 1199.

What is the difference between this and the calories required to maintain weight (which MFP advises me is 1510).

BMR = what you'd burn if you stayed in bed all day and didn't eat.

Maintenance as MFP calculates it = BMR * activity factor. This activity factor includes non-exercise activity like walking around your house, walking to and from your car at work, cleaning, and I think the calories burned to digest food. The you exercise and it adds those calories in too.

Other sites include your exercise in the original calculation so you don't have to track and eat those calories.

Technically, BMR is what you would burn in a coma, no movement at all. Even laying in bed all day you unconsciously fidget and move. Doesn't make much difference overall, but I'm a stickler for specifics lol.:drinker:
