Any aquavegans out there?

I don't think there is a term yet for a vegan that eats seafood (I know I know not a vegan if you eat the flesh of any living creature) but their needs to be a term coined for a person that doesn't eat any dairy or meat except fish. most Pescetarians eat dairy so that won't work. So someone suggested aquavegans. Any other Aquavegans out there? How long have you been one? Did you notice any changes when you switched?

I am sorry, but that is ridiculous. If you eat seafood, you are nowhere near vegan or vegetarian. You are just another person who sets limits on what they eat, no special name necessary. Some people eat no dairy and all meats ( maybe because they are lactose intolerant, maybe for health reasons); some people will only touch one type of meat: fish; some people are vegetarian and gluten free but eat dairy...
  • You cannot rightly add the term "vegan" to anything relating to eating the flesh of a living creature.

Perhaps just say "i eat fish but no other animal or animal products"?

I often have to explain to people about me being a pesetarian and not "vegetarian", as vegetarians do not eat flesh of any kind.
Confusing i know, but better we be clear if we're really going to label ourselves.

This is kind of ridiculous. Do we really need a word for EVERY variation on a restricted diet out there?

Why do you need a label for what you eat, or won't eat? I won't eat liver. What should I call myself?

I believe omnivore would be most appropriate- but saying 'seafood-loving omnivore' would work. Not as snazzy I know.

What's Greek for 'I like seafood and eat no other animal products or flesh'? I think using the term 'vegan' is guaranteed to ruffle feathers. 'arian' is an okay ending... but what about vore- you can add more syllables to the front of it.

    Or how about an acronym?
    PWESBNOAF
    Puh- Wes-Bih- No- Ahf.
People who eat seafood but no other animal flesh.

You are really missing out, not going to say which item I mean though.

Okay, really no, I do not eat poop.

ha you're not sorry, we have names for everything else under the friggin sun so what's it to ya if I want to coin a term. I want to find a term that encompasses my diet just like everyone else has a term so they don't have to sit and explain it to people. I am not settled on Aquavegan as my term basically because I want something that doesn't give a false definition just from looking at the word. I mean just look at these responses all because I want to coin a term. Sad

But thanks to the people that actually contributed something positive.

Legsatarian. You don't eat things that have legs or came from things that have legs.
  • We still have to explain!! I would be rich if i had a penny for everytime i've had this same conversation:

Them: So is chicken ok for dinner?
Me: No I don't eat meat, only fish
Them: Oh so you're a vegetarian?
    Me: No, I'm a pescetarian
    Them: What's a pescetarian?
Me: A person who eats fish but no other animal
Them: *Confused* I thought that was vegetarian
    Me: *Head/Desk*...

There isn't a term because there is no such thing. Veganism is the practice of abstaining from the use and consumption of any animal products, including seafood.

I think it's fine to try to find a name that works for you, and I get that totally, but vegan shouldn't be anywhere in it if you're being 100% honest with the process.

That would be someone who only eats legs.

    vegetarian = eats vegetables
  • We pescetarians do tend to eat other animal products like eggs, milk etc, so i don't think that's what she's after..

Just found this and think it might answer your question:

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20111008114642AAopq9w

Macrobiotic (eats unprocessed whole foods and occasional fish)

Or if you want a funny name - "Seagan"

why not is my question to you? If you wanted to make a term for someone that doesn't eat liver I wouldn't question you, especially when my topic wasn't about whether I should or shouldn't, I do because I can.

Aquavegan would kind of mean you only eat water. Why would you choose that over pescevegan?

I thought this was some kind of diet where you only ate plants from the sea. Now that really would be going back to our ancestral roots

Agreed. But I think everyone is antinastytarian, we just have our own definitions of nasty.

I am not settled on aquavegan still in the early stages of the name, I am open for suggestions, I am trying to reduce the word vegan in the word though, you catch a lot of flack for using that improperly around here lol

Why does their need to be a term for this? Labels are for cans, man. Just eat your fish and don't eat dairy.
