So i just got a HRM and yes I read the booklet.

Here is the Q
Question for those with HRM's. Was at the gym yesterday inputed my info on the treadmill, did on and off incline walk, says i burned 150ish cals my HRM says about 250 ish. Same BPM info and input. Which one should i rely on or should i keep doing MFP estimates? Thanks!

No it isnt polar, its a $60 i got a the PX , it does come with a chest strap and yes all my info is inputted in there. I think it is a sportline something something. lol

If you've got a good HRM, you didn't mention which one, the HRM is going to be most accurate for you assuming it's set up correctly with your info. I use one but I trust nothing 100%. I under log my exercise calories by about 25 to 30%.
  • Go by the hrm.....it is more accurate. Is it a polar? Those are the best imho

Did you input all your stats into the HRM? Is it one with a chest strap? If the answers are "Yes" then I'd go with your HRM, definitely.

If "No" then I'd take an average of the HRM and MFP numbers.

I conducted my own unofficial experiment and found my HRM with chest strap was a better estimate of calories burned. I first purchased a HRM that didn't take my age/weight and used that to compare my time on treadmill at the gym, the numbers on the HRM on my chest/body said I burned a lot more calories. Then I purchased a HRM that allowed me to enter my age, weight, etc and the numbers seem way more accurate. Plus if you research the HRM on gym equipement it is based on average person and doesn't take into account your information or have the chest strap, thats my little tidbit, hope it helps.

Thanks for the replies, and yes the HRM has a strap and has all my info inputted in there. It is a sportline, I got it @ the Exchange for like 60? read decent reviews on this model.

I'm not familiar with that one, but if it's good, it should be pretty accurate then!
