Weighing yourself?

So I’ve recently started working out and I’m pretty new to the game. How often should you weigh yourself? Every morning, 2-3 times a week once a week, once a month?

In the beginning, I recommend once a week. Make sure you get an accurate scale. EatSmart scales are usually rated the highest. I have one and it's fantastic. I had to hide the scale to stop myself from micromanaging myself. Weigh yourself in the morning on an empty stomach on the same day/time each week. Not to be gross, but preferably weigh yourself after you relieve yourself and have had a bowel movement.0

I agree. It can be hard to avoid the temptation of daily weigh ins but the body fluctuates so much in a single day due to water retention and other things that daily weighing could drive you crazy. Also, I'd recommend doing some research about gaining/losing weight, typical causes of weight fluctuation, and plateaus. That way after all your hard work, if you step on the scale and see a gain of two pounds (which will likely happen at some point) you don't get discouraged. There are a lot of helpful people on here who give great advice, along with some who don't. Your biggest asset will be based on how educated you make yourself about this process
Good luck feel free to add me if you want!0 -
I was weighing myself once a week for months and that was great, but lately I found myself getting on the stupid thing daily, sometimes 2 times a day so I put it away and will not get on it again until April 6th, that will be one month. I was starting to drive myself nuts! After that I will go back to once a week. I do it Friday mornings after going to the bathroom, before eating anything, naked.0

Whatever works for you man...I'd weigh EVERY day and take swings with a grain of salt...the more frequent you weigh in, the less momentous each number you see becomes...you see the trend, the development of good data. Rather than periodic measurements that may break your heart on weigh-in day due to some water gain, hormonal fluctuation, inflammation due to exercise, etc. Just use the same scale, at the same time of day, in the same clothing or lack thereof. For MFP I only recorded progress when it was a loss...that way the progress was based on results, not noise. But, in the end, do what makes the entire experience something you can live with. Nobody balances checkbooks or finances without a calculator (well, not many!) and with the abundance of food in our lives there's no way we can possibly balance our dietary "checkbooks" either.0
