ok so this is probably a dumb question but never thought about it. i know at the gyms and so on that they have the machines that tell you how many calories you lose and so on. but im only able to do things at home so how do i know what im burning off? do heart rate monitors do this or something else?

Yes, heart rate monitors calculate this for you -- I suggest investing in one if you can -- totally worth it! I have the Polar F6 but there are a ton of different ones on the market.
Otherwise you have to guesstimate using your stats and estimates provided on MFP or elsewhere on the web, and that's far less accurate (in my experience).0 -

Hi, and welcome! A lot of members go by their HRM's for much more accurate readings than the gym machines give.
I just exercise at home though, and have found a site that's got a lot of info on calories burned. It's: http://www.caloriesperhour.com/index_burn.php Maybe it'll help you out.0 -
Yea thats what ive been having to do it and i dont like it because im not sure on how accurate it is. is the F6 reasonably priced? if not whats a good one thats not really expensive?0

Thanx for that website, ive never seen so many activities listed lol. i really dont think of burning calories by taking out trash and so on lol.0

The F6 is the only one I've used -- I paid $98 for it, but you may be able to get it for cheaper if you google it. The Polar F4 is supposed to be good, too -- a few of my friends have that one and they like it, and it's slightly cheaper than the F6. Outside of the Polar ones, I have no experience, but I have heard others on hear referring to the Body Bugg and to Reeboks HRM . . . look around online and comparison shop!0
