New-?s about HRM and resting burn

Hello,
General overview, I am a liftime worker out about 10x a week, varied with jogging, Zumba, elliptical and 3 heavy lifting/strength training. New to MyFitnessPal. I'm working to lose 10 lbs.
I have downloaded the app on my iPhone and I noticed the numbers for the exercises are almost roughly half of what my HRM has told me for each of the activities above. Which have you MFPers feel is more accurate?
Also, does MFP not account for calories burned at resting? (Sleeping, desk job, showers) I'm pretty sure it's a number that would count if it were accounted for.
I tried to search for my answers, but I didn't find anything as specific as mine. Sorry if there is already an answer in the forums, link me up if so.
