we got the beets

Options
So Question,

I'm told that one of the secrets to getting ripped is to avoid sugars, however, one of my favorite foods, the Beet is supposedly high in sugar, I eat about 1/2 a cup of baked beets at each of my 3 meals, which puts my sugar intake for the day at 54g per day. Is this much sugar going to slow my fat burning metabolism down?? Body Builders and Crazy ripped guys who really monitor their food intake help out with this, perhaps I'm being a bit too anal...

OMG! I say this exact thing!

    My husband loves beets, though.

Still, I recently began drinking beet juice mixed wth other antioxidant juices (acai, pom., blueberry), but less than half a glass, total. I don't drink enough to dramatically effect my carb quota.

A little OT but there has been research at the University of Exeter regarding beetroot juice and sports performance.

Apparently the nitrates in it reduce the amount of oxygen your muscles need, the bad news is you have to drink about 500ml per for about 4 days prior to competing. Don't get me wrong, I like beets, but chugging down 500ml of dirt flavoured juice for a 1% improvement in performance......no thanks.
