Wanting to make sure I'm doing the right thing

Hi everyone, I just wanted to check in and get opinions on a snack that I'm having to help up my cal intake (I'm trying to gain a few pounds back) and what it is is a Nature Valley Oat'n Dark Chocolate granola bar. In 2 bars there's 190 cal, 8g fat, 4g protein, and 28g of carb. Like today, I had one with a small apple after lunch for a snack-is this an alright thing to have? Thus, this snack was 245cal but I want to make sure it's a healthy choice. Thank you for your advice!

    I don't know the snack, but cereal bars type of things are often just full of sugar. I personally prefer to eat crackers or fruit for my healthy snack and have lots of these throughout the day as I LOVE snacking, but that is my individual choice.
    As long as your daily calorie intake is under your daily allowance you'll be ok. Last week I had a cake, scone, or something else that wasn't healthy every day, but I gathered that was OK, as my calorie intake, fat intake etc for these days were still within my daily allowance. I still lost a pound over the week. This week I have been 'better' in the day, but found myself not eating enough caloiries, so made it up by having nuts most days- also considered a less healthy snack by most. (being a veggie I do find them a great source of protein).

    I suppose the golden rule is: everything is OK to eat- as long as it is in moderation and fits within your daily calorie intake allowance.

    I agree - processed foods = bad...if you want to put on weight I would recommend snacking on nuts and avocodo!
  • For snacks I eat fruit or wheat bread, healthy and keeps ya filled. I agree that cereal bars have a lot of sugar possible some hidden.

    Did you have one bar or two? If you only had one, then you need to say you had half a serving of 2 bars. Or change the serving size to one bar and say you had one serving.

    0.5 servings of 2 bars

    or

    How much?
    1.0 servings of 1 bars

    I've never had a Nature Valley granola bar, but the commercials are pretty!

    I only eat fruit as my snack. It gives me the carb and natural sugar I need. I know some people prefer yogurt and fruit

    I would suggest staying away from those bars as they are full of fillers and sugar. Eat more healthier foods/snacks and increase your calorie intake about 200 calories over your daily allowance to gain a few pounds back. Also try the weight lifting. Sometimes toning can help add the definition you might be looking for.

    Fruit and a granola bar? Yes, those are fine snacks. No need to over analyze.

    Fruit and nuts, greek yogurt, veggies with hummus are some of my snacks.

    I like fooducate if you have a iphone or droid. You can scan the food and it says pros and cons of it and shows you healthier alternatives in the same category if they exist. Plus, I can take to grocery with me if I'm buying new things.
