Carbs from Vegetables

Does carbs from vegetables honestly count? As in.. do you count those carbs as well? Have any of you seen success in eating high carbs all from vegetables and fruits only, no grains/bread.. and not so high in protein?

They are carbs, but they are not artificially added or processed carbs, like sucrose or white flour. They take longer to digest. They are thus less glycemic and cause less of an insulin spike after you eat them.

If I'm over on my carbs for the day, but I know they came from yogurt, fruit, vegetables, and not things like rice, pasta, or bread then i don't really stress about it too much.
I tend to eat more starchy vegetables and less grains

They are calories...why wouldn't you count them?
  • If veggies (and fruits) are your primary source of carbs, that's a good thing

I just finished eating nearly 600 calories worth of veggies. If I didn't count that it would be real easy for me to start getting fat.

This is exactly why you should always count them. I've never understood why people think veggies are just free carbs they don't have to count...a calories is a calorie no matter where it comes from and if you go over with them, it'll kill your weight loss goals

^^This and yeah you should count them as carbs. They are a REALLY low amount though. Like a cup of broccoli has what like 8 carbs in it? That's a lot of food for not a lot of calories/carbs. Where a cup of rice or oats would be 50-60g carbs.

I cut all carbs other than vegetables for about a month and leaned up a lot. But what I should've done was cut even the vegetables and I think I would've leaned up more.

It's only ok to cut carbs for a limited time (2-4 weeks MAX) then you gotta go back to normal food cuz otherwise you'll mess up your metabolism and it will have a diminishing effect past 4 weeks.

Why do you ask, anyway? You don't even log your food.

You DO need to *count* the carbs from veggies, they are still 4 calories per gram...

You don't have to stress as much if you know that your carbs are healthy carbs like veggies, whole grains, fruit in moderation, etc. but you do still need to count them!

saccharides are saccharides...the source of the carb doesn't make a difference in terms of weight loss. In the end they are all still 4 calories per gram of carb.

It isnt like weight watchers w unlimited fruits and veggies, you need to count them. The upside though is veggies are full of fiber so it knocks out some of the carbs count i.e. green beans - 4 carbs 2 fiber = 2 net carbs. Do you take the fiber into account?

If you're counting carbs, then yes of course they count! Fiber negates a lot of the total (like above poster said.)
