Perhaps a silly question but any advice on clothing for big

Well ... no gentle way of saying this I suppose. I'm a big girl, and I'm working on becoming a smaller girl. My problem is that when I exercise, like running, my upper thighs tend to rub therefore wearing out this particular part of my exercise shorts/pants. :embarassed: And I *hate* exercise bras. :grumble: But running in my regular bras wears them out too quickly. So, does anyone have any exercise clothing suggestions – brands & styles?

    I have found that the more I lose the less my pants are rubbing.....

    Maybe just stick with things you find at a TJ Maxx or Ross so that you aren't investing as much but still getting some good brands.

    There is a product called Body Glide, you apply it to where your body rubs to prevent chaffing.

    Alot of people rave over these although they are a little pricey i hear they are totally worth it.

    I'll add a second question onto this one. I've been looking for a bra that gives me coverage, if ya know what I mean. I don't relish looking all pointy at the gym, and rarely are mine pointing in the same direction anyway, heh, but the one padded bra I found that had the support that I needed, kind of gave me a uniboob look.

    Does anyone else have this issue, and how have you dealt with it?

    I had this problem too.....My thighs would rub together and make my shorts ride up something horrible...exposing WAY too much. My solution? Biker shorts. I got mine online (I think Roamans? JMS? One Hanes Place?
    While biker shorts are not all that attractive on a bigger gal, it worked wonders, as they are the most comfortable thing I can possibly think of. No rubbing or awkward riding up. I've tried different things along the way, but ultimately I'm a BIG BABY when it comes to working out and if my conditions arent ideal and comfortbale, I wont do it. Biker shorts and a big t-shirt work for me and have for years.

    As for the well endowed...I hated the sprots bras too, but then I saw someone else like me in the gym putting it over her regular bra. So I tried that and again, it worked wonders. Fairly comfortable, kept things in place and works like a charm.

    I went with "Champion" line shorts and bra, its not the cheapest, but they are good quality that last for a long time, with repeated wear and washing. I've had mine for years and will replace them as needed. They come in bigger sizes, so it works well. I might add too that my sports bras are not as large as a regular bra would be, but since i double up in that area, it doesnt seem to matter.

    I wear a shaper underneath my shorts or pants. It keeps my thighs covered and prevents the chub rub that we all hate so much. Monistat also makes a gel that turns to powder. If you put it on before working out it will prevent the chaffing. Sorry, I don't have any advice for the sports bra. I never had that particular problem... I'm big everywhere but in my chest.     For the thigh problem, go to Junonia.com. they have shorts with built in compression shorts that keep you from getting chafed. They're spendy, but SOOOOOO worth it. I just picked up 2 more pair on their clearance tab. The outer short is sewn to the compression shorts so they don't ride up, but there isn't a seam where your (my) legs rub together.

    Also, I just found some awesome yoga and fitness capris and long pants in plus sizes at LandsEnd.com. The fit is great, they're nice and stretchy, but retain their shape, and the yoga pants have a roll up waist band so my stomach stays covered when I'm stretching. I wear Glamorise sports bra's....my new favorite.

    I second the comment on the bike shorts. it seems backward- but the tighter, the better, no riding up.

    I also second the one about Champion bras. I found a great one that has hidden underwires inside, a hook closure for the back (so you don't become a pretzel trying to take off a sweaty bra) and is super-industrial strength supportive. It kinda does make for uniboob, but that is (IMO) way better than painful bouncing.

    I get "pointy" when I work out. I cut the cups out of an old padded bra and put it in my workout bra. Works pretty well. I've also tried to tape them down.....I don't recommend that. YEEOUCH!!!:noway: :noway: :sad:

    Look for capri style yoga pants, so you can have a bit more coverage than shorts, if that is an issue for you. Get ones that have wicking polypropelene - like CoolMax and avoid cotton blends. I have found that the pants that have cotton in them tend to ball up and wear out in the inner thigh. It seems counterintuitive to avoid cotton for workout wear because of the sweating, but the new poly blends breathe so much better and tend to be silky so the the fabric glides over itself.

    I buy tight fitting pants made out of the wicking fabrics. Cotton / spandex blends wear out faster and cause more chaffing. It is an ugly topic :wink: Target sells the champion brand and they carry a lot of capri and long style pants in this material (it is the shiny material).

    Body glide is great, asics has just come out with their own brand of anti chaffing cream too. It looks like deoderant but you apply it to the parts that chafe. Also, diaper cream works, but I would suggest you use that at home only..

    Bras, I have to wear a regular bra under a sports bra or the twins are out of control. I like the champion brand you can find it at target. Just my size also makes sports bras and there is a brand that is a little spendy that maybe someone can correct the name for me but it begins with an E (sorry no help).

    Sports bras are a matter of personal comfort. You may need to go try several brands and sizes on to find the ones that work best for you. I suggest jumping up and down in the dressing room to check for support! :wink:
