Once you reach your goal now what?

My question once you reached your desired goal or weight, what is the best way to maintain it, with out gaining it back? thanks

    At first I reset my goals here at MFP to 'maintain current weight' (1990 cals), but that freaked me out a bit since it then allowed me to eat almost 600 more calories a day. I bumped it down to 'lose 1/2 pound per week' (1740 cals). I will try to stay close to that (eating some of my exercise cals) and if I happen to go over some, then I won't worry about it.

    I was planning to still eat at a deficit as I'm only losing a few pounds a month anyway right now after TOTM, even with daily exercise. And don't want to gain it all back if I up my calories and exercise by putting on muscle or water or fat!

    I asked a similar question with no reply. I've bumped my calories up by 200 a day, and plan to exercise alot still as my body still needs plenty of toning and muscle.

    I reached my goal weight about 6 weeks ago. I've kept my exercise the same but inceases my cals my 50 per week. I've gone from 1400 to 1800 at the moment. It's just trial and error to get the right balance

    I'd say keep doing what you are doing! except gradually start increasing your calories to a maintenance level. Keep exercising. Keep watching your weight and what you eat. You will need more support than ever, so keep logging in!

    There is a maintenance group on this site too, so join that and find some maintenance friends to help you.

    I hit man intense in Nivember and it has been hard for eat to not over eat with the additional calories I'm allotted. I just adjust with my weekly weigh in. If I lose a pound I go to gain a half pound a week if I gain I do the opposite. MFP is really good at their calculations for helping you meet your goals.....

    I have been on maintenance for one month after losing 30 pounds.

    I was eating at a 0.5 lb/week deficit for the last few months of my weight loss. The weight came off slower but I believe this eased me into maintenance. Switching to maintenance only gave me an extra couple hundred of calories a day, so it wasn't like I was going from 1200 to 1700 suddenly. I pre-plan my meals whenever possible, so I am aware when I am running low on calories and can add food to get me to my goal if necessary (cooking in healthy oils, almonds as a snack, etc.).

    I am currently working on logging less and less, as I don't want to log for life. Starting this weekend, I am going to log only on weekdays and see how it goes. Also, I am part of a "Maintenance" group on MFP that is a great support network.

    If you didn't "diet" to do it, it shouldn't be too much of a transition. People that did the ______ diet are usually the ones who will gain weight back because it isn't a lifestyle that they would normally do.
    One thing that's important is to stay consistent. You can have a day or even a couple of days of over consumption, but don't lose focus to the point that you become inconsistent on calorie limits.

    There are a lot of great answers here for me to draw from, once I reach that goal. thanks for all the info that I will keep saved and use for when I do reach my goal and good luck to you all fitness pals:)
