p90x- 5 week results

hello!
i've just finished the first 5 weeks of p90x and wanted to share my results.
some frustrating, some exhilarating.
first of all, i've lost zero weight, and my scale says my body fat hasn't changed one tenth of a percent.
this is the frustrating bit.
the exhilarating part?
i lost a total of 11" all over!!!!
measured: start/current/deficit
bust: 40"/37.5"/(-2.5")
waist: 33.5"/30"/(-3.5")
hips: 40"/37"/(-3")
thighs: 24"/24"/(0)
arms: 15"/14"/(-1")
if anyone has any tips or pointers on what i can do to make the body fat% and weight go down, i'm open to hearing.
ideally, i would like to squeeze in a run on top of the p90x routine, but i've got to look at my schedule and see where that can fit in. the last time i was running i lost ~5lbs per month, running 5k 3-4/week.
soooo... i'm elated, but i also need some expert advice. my diary is open, and while i'm not perfect, i'm sure you can see that i've been giving it my best!
thanks in advance for your support! i'm nowhere near giving up!

What is PX90? Hear a lot about it on the forums.0

Congratulations!!!!!
I just finished week 2 and have not lost a pound either. I'm hoping that at the end of the month, I'll have dropped at least one pant size.0 -

p90x is a 90 day routine that mixes strength training and cardio, 3 days of each, per week.
it's pretty intense, but the famous mantra that is "do your best and forget the rest" is a great motivator to keep pushing yourself to your limits.
i've seen a huge difference in my strength and flexibility and i am so looking forward to future results.
i highly recommend it

Hi, you're doing great! You've lost so many inches :drinker:
I posted this article on another board thought you might like to read it too:
A quick start-up to an aerobic exercise program can also result in immediate weight gain, partly related to the fluid retention of delayed-onset muscle soreness. But another natural phenomenon can increase the water content (and weight) of muscles even more.
As a person adapts to an aerobic exercise program, their muscles get better at storing carbohydrate in a form called glycogen. To muscles, glycogen is the storage form of high-octane fuel. During exercise, muscles break down glycogen to a high-energy source called glucose. A steady supply of glucose is essential for maintaining moderate- to high-intensity exercise.
So far, so good. But here's the rub: Along with each additional gram of glycogen stored in the muscles, about 3 grams of water are stored, resulting in a weight gain of as much as 2 to 4 pounds.
Consequently, muscle development can mask fat loss if you are watching the scale. Yet, your waist, hips and thighs can be shrinking in size and your clothes will fit better. Also, an increase in muscle tissue results in increased calorie needs, even at rest.

Thank you for this!! RadRad and I are in the same boat. (I'm not doing p90x, but still trying my best with little scale results, only inches).0 -
wow, look at you amazing results. I've wanted to try it but I can barely make it through 30 day shred0

Love p90x, congrats! -- Dont worry bout the weight, it will come off! .. I did p90x twice. only lost 9 lbs with each round and 13 inches each time.0

Great job!
i am finishing up my 8th week of P90x.
During the first week I lost 5 lbs...then over the next few weeks, I gained it back, and my weight fluctuated 4 lbs up and down.
Just yesterday, I stepped on the scale and was down 2 lbs from my lowest weight!
I have a few friends that have done the program, and they didn't see the scale move until Phase 3, I know it can be really discouraging (I was there, thinking the same things, just last week!) but just hang in there! You are putting your body through an INTENSE workout program, and it's fighting the change...it takes time. Keep thinking, "I'm making a change, and good results take time".
I'm not following the meal plan, I'm just doing the MFP calorie counting, and increasing my protein. I do follow what Tony says and drinking a 'recovery drink' which basically is just a protein shake after my workouts.
Keep going!0 -
I just did round 1 of P90x. I lost a ton of inches, but not a lot of pounds. My P90x buddy and I decided to do the full P90x instead of lite version after week 5 because there was not enough cardio. That is when I saw the most weight loss. Also I cut the calorie intake suggested by 500 calories and that is when I started seeing results on the scale and measuring tape0

Body fat functions built into scales are essentially worthless.
There's no way you've lost that many inches without decreasing body fat...so choose to believe an actual measure (tape) over a computed measure from your scale.
BTW, P90X is an excellent program. I've always maintained that women who do it well will see phenomenal results because of the blend of cardio and weight bearing exercise. Good choice!0 -

A great MF pal of mine said this to me when I complained about lossing 6" in one month but have not dropped an oz.
He said and I quote word for word - "That's called being NOT human. Losing just fat mass while keeping all your muscle mass. That's very beastmodey if you ask me ;-) "
So now, I aim for inches more than the pounds - scale always follows just keep up the hard work!!!0 -
UPDATE: 7 weeks in
lost an additional 5.5"
and 1.2lbs finally
my scale still says my body fat% is the same. i think it lies.
only 6 more weeks to go!
so excited!0 -
Congrats on all your hard work and results so far!
As far as the BF% concern goes, I would recommend getting a Body Fat Caliper ($5-$10 on Amazon) and doing the measurements yourself. In my experience, the bf% function on scales is usually inaccurate and/or inconsistent...which can be very frustrating when decreasing bf% is your main goal.
This website (http://www.linear-software.com/online.html) provides some good formulas where you can plug in your measurements. I usually go with the Jackson-Pollack 3 site Method.
And similarly, I'm doing P90X2 right now. I did not lose a pound in my first phase (even with proper diet/nutrition, I even jumped up 2 lbs in the beginning) but in Phase 2 i have lost 15 lbs. Honestly if you've lost all these inches, then I think you must have lost some body fat and are on the right course, so keep pushing play!
Hope this helps!0 -
P90x rocks! Good job for sticking with it and not giving up because of the number on the scale. I just finished week 12, so I'm almost done, and the scale has hardly moved. I looked at your profile and we are about the same size.
I've also lost a lot of inches (roughly 18 so far), but only about 5lbs total on the scale. I look completely different though. I'm down a pant size too, though I with it was more.
I seriously think to actually lose weight w/p90x, you have to add in extra cardio and REALLY watch your nutrition. I didn't do the nutrition part the first 2 phases and I'm kicking myself now for that. The third phase, I've been better, but not perfect.
I'm starting Insanity right after p90x -- that is supposed to really shred the fat. I'm also studying the Insanity nutrition plan and want to have a diet all set before I start. There is also a schedule on Beachbody.com that combines p90x and Insanity.....that looks interesting.
Good luck & keep up the great work!0 -
Just keep in mind that muscle weighs more than fat. So you have lost weight but you've made it up in muscle.. which is why you've lost so many inches! p.s. awesome job! You should start seeing more weight come off now because muscle needs more energy to survive so it burns more calories.. so now that you've built up a good muscle base you should really start seeing results in the way of weight loss... . on top of those inches as well! keep up the good work!0

I'm currently finishing up my 7th week of P90X. I lost about 6 pounds during the first month, and about 3 pounds over the last 30 days. The weight loss seems to be getting slower, but that is to be expected as I only have about 20 more pounds to reach my first goal weight.
One thing I have tried recently is increasing my calories to around 2100 per day. I did this because I stopped losing weight over the past couple weeks. So far this week I have lost 1.4 pounds just from eating more! I would suggest doing some research on increasing your calories. With an intense program like P90X, we have to supply our bodies with enough fuel otherwise we will hold on to the fat longer.0 -
UPDATE: Week 9, Day 5
So, as of last week I have upped my Net calories to my calculated BMR of 1440. My TDEE calculation was like 2100 so I figured I'd take it slow with upping the calories for right now and take baby steps. I've also changed my macros to 30f-30c-40p and have started to incorporate one protein shake a day, following my work out (Designer Whey Protein- French Vanilla----*note: when this runs out I will be looking to buy a shake with a much higher protein count (30g, hopefully). Lastly, I've also started to incorporate a 2-3 mile run into my weekly routine for extra cardio and to train, as I've gotten myself into a few 5k's here lately.
To date, since starting p90x, I have lost 5lbs and 20.5" all over, with 4" happening in the past 2 weeks!
Needless to say, I'm super happy with my results thus far and I Iook forward to finishing the program.
Most of all, I'm looking forward to not regretting the way I look in my friend's wedding pictures as a chunky bridesmaid.
Thanks to all for your support! I look forward to continuing this journey with you all!
Feel free to add!
