I have recently discovered that I suffer from runners knee. Tomorrow I will be running a 10mile race and I am looking for advice on how to prevent the soreness while running... braces, pain reliever really any advice would help.

Thanks a bunch in advance!

Some Ibuprofen might help. I'm fully against using it on a regular basis. I don't think it is a good idea to mask the painful signals your body sends to tell you that something is wrong.

In rare occasions (like a race) I would take it to get through the race with minimal pain and then address the runner's knee after. A cure is always better than a temporary fix.

If you really want to avoid drugs, KT tape can do wonders. It's only about $12 a roll at my local running store. You can Google instructions on how to tape. It provides almost instant relief for my occasional Achilles flare-up.

You can get one of these at most running stores: http://www.rei.com/product/704434/pro-tec-athletics-patellar-tendon-strap

Or you can tape it: http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-241-286--13018-0,00.html

I have used both and prefer the tape.

KT Tape Pro!!! AMAAAAAZING! Have some on my ankle right now - stays on for days and days :-)

Edit to say: Braces mess with my gait too much! Tape is much more minimalistic while still getting the support like a brace
