You either need a HRM or you need to look up exercises that you think are similar in intensity and make an educated guess. How did your first workout go. I have a next door neighbor that just started slim in 6 and really likes them so far.0

It kicked my butt LOL!!! I can tell just from the first workout that its going to give me the results I want if I just keep with it, which as of right now I totally plan on doing!!0

FYI, besides going to a clinic that does a VO2 Max test for you while you work out, the only really accurate way to get your calories burned is an HRM. Something like the Polar F4 or F6 or maybe the Timex Ironman or something similar, expect to pay 60 or 80 dollars but it'll be the best money you ever spent. Don't go cheap and get one without a heart beat sensor (chest strap), cuz they only estimate and can be far off. Also don't go by what a machine at the gym tells you, those are really generic calculations and can be hundreds of calories off.0

You can log it under high impact or general aerobics but it would be best to get a HRM for a more accurate reading. It could be a lot higher because you just started but it can also slow down once you start getting more fit.0

Thank you all for the great info I guess I should start looking for a HRM0

Excellent. That is the key...being consistent. If you stumble, get up and get back at it.0 -
Thanks for the support!!0

How accurate is MFP? If I do 30 minutes on the elleptical the machine shows less calories burned than MFP does. And no, I am not going to go out and buy a HRM...I just want to know if I should use the machine or MFP's calories!0

I guess you could go with either one. They are both just estimates and do not take into account your fitness level.0 -

I go by MFP as opposed to the machines. Unless the machine asks for your weight and you track your heart rate on the machine - some of the newer ones do that - then I would use the machine #.0 -
Neither MFP or a machine are going to be all that accurate. But it really depends on how closely you conform to the averages out there.
You could be up to a few hundred calories off the average, or it could be dead on. No way to know without testing yourself with an accurate device or tool.0
