so, I have a very short stride when I walk(5 inches or so) my husband has a long stride, we can set treadmills for same speed and same distance, but he always gets to his distance in a shorter time than I do. A three miles an hour a have to walk twice as him to keep up.I guess what i'm asking is am I really going more mph than what the machine says? Hope I explained it ok.

Are you sure your stride is only 5 inches? That seems way too short. Almost a shuffle. I'm betting your stride is more like 12 inches or so. But in anycase, no, I'm sorry. You have to "cover the distance" so unless you pick up the pace and take more short strides then you will take longer to cover the same distance as your husband's longer stride. However, if you take short strides and do more steps a minute you may keep up with him.
    Good Luck!

So pick up the pace if you can! If not, walking a mile is walking a mile..it's good for you not matter how slow or fast you go.
