Gained 1.5 lbs. since lifting?

I know it's not a ton of weight to gain, and I know weight fluctuates so many pounds. I always weigh myself as soon as I get up in the morning and I've been sitting at 136. I am eating pretty much the same way I do everyday. I go to the Gym at least 6 days a week and I do 25 minutes on the elliptical every time I go. Whenever I used to strength train though I pretty much just went through the motions and worked out every body part everyday and soon realized that I was doing it wrong because I had less and less energy ( I was new to the whole strength training thing) In one of my earlier posts I made a comment that I'd like to strive towards building muscle like Jamie Eason. So for the past week and a half I've been following her strength training guide, lifting as much weight as I can, and busting my butt spending about 2 hours at the Gym everyday I go. So when I stepped on the scale, I was surprised to see 137.5 since I'm working harder than I ever have. Can I be gaining weight from muscle? Or am I doing something else wrong? If anyone has any tips or pointers please let me no. I'd like to try to lose 7 lbs.!!!

If you were to ask at the gym, they could tell that muscle weights more per volume than fat...so you may be lose inches but might gain some weight.

More than likely it's water retention. When you increase your lifting your muscles will retain water to repair. That's a very short amount of time to see any increase in "true muscle growth" especially if you're eating low calories.

Thank you! I was thinking there's no way I could have gained muscle that fast lol but maybe it's that then! I was just confused because my eating habits are the same and I've uped my cardio as well from 10 min to 25 min!

When people make a commitment to lifting on a regular basis, the first couple of weeks it's normal for weight to go up. Storage of glycogen and water will cause the weight gain for repair and for the storage of energy for the next anticipated workout. It's temporary and usually subsides within a couple of weeks.

your muscles may be repairing be keeping a little bit of water, this should subside :) if not get the tape measure out for the real truth.

I'd also like to mention that weight gain does not necissarily mean fat gain. I'd say focus on that percentage and losing fat not "weight". It's such an innacurate representation of progress.

Best of luck! Focus on the fat, not the scale girl!

I started lifting regularly about 10 days ago. 3-4 days in I gained a 1-1.15 lbs every day for 3 days... That weight is starting to come back off. Ive dropped 3 pounds over the last 3 days. I was glad to see it start to come back off its scared the crap out of me.

I am also doing the LiveFit program, I am on Phase 2 week 7. I gained 4 pounds, but lost inches and lost bf%. So don't worry about the weight gain while lifting. I would concentrate on your measurements and how your clothes fit more then your weight gain. The 1st phase is designed for you to "bulk" so you will gain weight but if you are eating right it is muscle and not fat.

I love it! I think it is really easy to follow, the recipes she has listed are fantastic. I also love the changes I am seeing. You can go to Amazon.com and there is a tape measure along with BF Calipers for like $8. This way you can also keep track of your BF%. Feel free to add me
