Vigorous or Moderate exercise?

I've been unable to find any real guidance on what constitutes "moderate" versus "vigorous" exercise. I've been arbitrarily using an average heart rate during the exercise period of 80% of max as the cut-off, so if my average is greater than 80% of max, I log that as "vigorous."
It makes kind of a big difference, for example on a 45 minute spinning class, there's about a 200 calorie difference between moderate and vigorous.
Any guidance appreciated - thanks.
