Runners: Inner knee pain when starting back up?

Hello MFPer's! I have been out of commission for a while now-but, with the weather getting better, and my school life settling down a bit, I have gotten back into running.
So, last year, I started running in May, and then completed my first EVER half marathon (hadn't ever ran before last year) in September. I had very little to no problems during my entire training. I started with the couch to 5k program, and then moved to Hal Higdon's training program. I had a blast doing it, but hate running in the winter-so I did other exercise.
Last week, I went on spring break with my boyfriend. He's an avid runner as well. (more avid than me I guess.. runs in the winter, too) Anyway, so we went on a run together. I ran/walked a bit, and I was fine. I didn't have my fitted running shoes, so I wore a pair of asics that I had brought as walking shoes. I was fine the whole run, but that night and the next day I had searing pain along the inside of my left knee. It woke me up multiple times.
I have had physical therapy on my left meniscus before. They told me I was okay to run, as long as I watched it/iced after runs/got the right shoes.
I have been professionally fitted for shoes. I literally tried on every shoe in this running store, and ended up with mizuno prophecies. Believe it or not they kept my foot the most stable.
When I got back from spring break, about 5 days later, I went on another run by myself. I only ran about a mile and a half (walk/run) and I was fine. No knee pain, back in my running shoes, all fine and dandy.
Went for a run today. Got to 2 miles, only walked twice, felt great. The only reason I had to walk was to catch my breath, but my body felt great (I still stay in shape otherwise) and after the run I felt fantastic. I iced and stretched.
Now the pain is back. And if it's possible it's even worse than before.
I can't even stand on my left leg without pain in my knee. On a scale from 1-10, 1 being barely anything, and 10 being feeling the need for medical attention, it's about a 7 or 8 after I stand and walk on it. I've been icing it ALL day, limping around like some pathetic person. I only ran TWO miles. That's nothing! I ran 13 not 6 months ago!
I can't take any pain killers at the moment because of this medication I'm on until Monday. So this is just super fun.
Any suggestions?! I was so excited to get back into running, but this pain is becoming unbearable. And I barely did ANY distance!
And my shoes are still pretty dang new. I mean real new. We're talking about 20 miles on these things so far.
Not sure if this is something that band around your knee would help with.
I'm still pretty new to this. But I want to be able to keep running so I won't run for the time being.
Any suggestions/advice is appreciated
Thanks!!

I am interested to see as well. I am new to running - well - jogging. I am slow but have been jogging on and off since the beginning of the year and am at 5 miles but not comfortably yet. When I take time off and start up, my inner knee hurts as well. I kickbox and have the same pain when I take time off there and go back. It is a repetitive motion that I do that causes it to hurt, I think.
Interested in what others say. You are in much better shape than I so we may not have the same issue, but at face value, sounds like it.0 -
Ditto, I just started jogging/running yesterday again after months of NOT running and crap happening in my life. My left knee is what's bothering me, and it's that side that I have LLD (Long Leg Discrepancy) and I'm not sure where to go from here. I ran again, much better, did about 5 mi but I stopped several times to catch wind. Hopefully someone will have insight!0

Do you guys have the proper shoes? I got fitted a while back for mine, and it helped when I was first starting out. Which is why I'm so confused about what this may be now..0

my roommate is a marathoner, and he suggested it might be ITBS
here's a good site with some stretches and info on it, hope it's useful

Thanks for the tip! I'm an all or nothing'er and it kinda sucks because I was getting really well and pounding out the pavement or the track when I was running or practicing. At least by the second day, yesterday I was breathing properly.
@horseryder - yeah, I got fitted a couple of years ago, but because I've gained weight, I think my gait is totally off. I live in a rural community so there isn't anything of that sort around here. Boo.Oh well. And, I know I logged some miles on my current shoes, they're worn.
