So who is taking odds of a:
Response wanting to know more about this undereating problem?
Response of "i know what I'm doing"?
Response of "I can't possibly eat more?
Response of "how could I lose weight eating more"?
Response of a new Topic looking for different opinions to eat less and exercise more?
Or because of being in medical school, will find her answers by studying?

That's not very nice, and it's certainly not helpful.

It's also not very nice or helpful for people to write things like STOP STARVING YOURSELF (I know, being not-nice was the point). When has that ever helped anyone? I understand your intentions are good, but there needs to be a lot more method to the magic.
  • Morning! So I have lost 20 in 10 weeks(not on here)....I have been eating about 1200 cal a day but I make sure I'm eating anywhere from 5-6 small meals a day(3meals and 3 snacks). I'm have more energy, increases metabolism and stablizes mood! Eating less then 1200 puts your body into a starvation mode and will keep ALL calories and fat instead of burning it off. Eating every 3-4 hours will help prevent, however minimum amount of calories should be at 1200, also without that if you are working out ALOT you should probably be doing at least 1400. Good Luck!!!

we aren't being harsh for no reason. we are trying to make you realize what you are doing. I know what an eating disorder looks like first hand and you are on a downward spiral whether you want to see it or not. The bottom line is you asked for help, so take it. Listen to me when I say you are not eating enough and not eating the right things to nourish your body. I really don't mind talking with you and helping you but you have to be willing to help yourself first.

oh gosh... are you kidding me? You thought you saw an eating disorder and decided that yelling "STOP STARVING YOURSELF" was a useful and smart thing to say?

Next time I see someone overweight I'll yell "STOP EATING SO MUCH AND MOVE MORE". yes, I think we can all relate to how unhelpful THAT is, even there is some level of truth in it.

I've been on both the high end and the low end of the healthy bmi, and I've copped both of them. These words are never helpful, no matter how good your intentions are.

I have also been on both sides and sometimes you need a kick in the butt because no one will say it. I am tired of everyone telling these young women that eating do little is "great" and "keep up the good work" it's bull ****! So, if you aren't trying to help, you are part of the problem as well. Stop knocking me for trying to help her.

HI, I would suggest you definitely eat more proteins and veggies, but Eat More..If you are working out and not eating back some of those calories, you won't be able to sustain a good routine for long. You need the fuel(calories) to keep the body going. The protein and veggies wil have to fill you up with god calories, not empty cals. Good luck and don't panic because you will be able to change that problem soon enough. I had same problem last year and saw a nutrionist and sure enough, I wasn't eating enough. As soon as I started eating more, the weight started coming off again.

I really am not starving myself.. i've been a vegetarian for a few months now and most of the things i eat are leafy and have almost no calories in them. its not that i dont want to eat more its just that watever i eat is not enough to hit my 1200 cal to start with.

Yeah, you are. If you really think you're 'not starving' yourself, you've got an unhealthy/unrealistic perception of calories and food and you should work on changing that. Seriously. Accept that food is fuel and fuel your body. It need the fuel to function best. I PROMISE YOU, you will feel better, more alive, more optimistic, more energetic, more focused if you EAT. You only need a 500 calorie deficit to lose 1 lbs a week. If I had to guess, that means you should be eating at least 1500 calories a day, more on your exercise days.

Hey - I'm definitely someone who's been down that road of being afraid to eat more and not knowing where to go next (and looking at your diary it's pretty darn similar to where I once was) and yet here I am with the weight back on me! I mean - wasn't restricting myself to 800 calories a day going to keep me in all my size 0's?!?! Um. No.. it didn't. Instead it sent me down a path of disordered eating that has been troubling and handicapping me for 5 years (wow 5 years already?) now.

My 2 cents is to just listen to what other posters are saying about upping calories or adding a few more caloric dense foods or if not - go seek a professional like a dietitian. They're not scary and won't make you eat a ton, they will understand your needs and fears.

This is a restrictive way to eat, no ifs and or buts. And eventually it cannot be sustainable. I don't know your story but I know what can happen if it gets out of control and I wouldn't wish for ANYONE what I have been through. And it all started with 800-900 calories a day.

From your picture you already look absolutely stunning, don't put a lot of pressure on yourself.

Noticed that on some days you go way over your sodium limit. Try to keep your max at 2500 mg. at least. I'm fact, it might help to reduce your sodium even further. Talk to your doctor about what your max should be.

Go back into your Settings - Fitness/Diet profile and change the goal to the recommended 1lb week.

This should at least set your daily NET goal to around and hopefully above your BMR.

If you earn exercise credit and know the calorie burn from HRM, eat them all back.
If using MFP or other site table estimate, eat 80% of them back.

Eating more often DOES NOT, i repeat does not increase your metabolism. Sorry just had to respond to this since I used to believe this also and it does not help to keep telling people this. If you want to eat 5 or 6 times a day thats fine. If you want to eat 3 x that's fine to. Neither one will matter. It also doesn't matter what time you eat. So please do some research if you wish to learn more about this. There's plenty of info on this site about this issue.

ps- I would say for me eating more often just makes you hungry all the time. I know this since I have been doing IF for couple weeks works alot better in hunger control. Just my 2cents
